Zgemma star 2s cccam assistance required.

Didn't wish to hijack a previous thread.....so decided to start another....!

Hi all.
I know it's saturday night and I'm watching match of the day as well!! but this is driving me over the edge.
I'm a new to all of this.... I got a zgemma star 2s yesterday and after a precipitous learning curve, finally reached the stage of getting myself a 24hr test line to try, straightforward? No!
My unit is loaded with OPenatv and I thought I had acclimatised myself with it enough to do whatever I needed to do to get 'everything'. Thought I'd followed instructions to the letter.

Story so far!! recieved my first box yesterday, set up satellites, sky uk channels etc which,I presume just need activating with cccam code/line. Got in touch with and a provider and received the necessary 24hr pass. Gave myself a crash course on FTP'ing then ftp'd the necessary newcam.list and mg_cfg files into 'user/var/keys' folder through Filezilla. Back to my box....'menu/ info panel/ softcam panel/'select cam 1' (right press and selected mgcamd_1.38r1) which is the cam plugin I downloaded in plugin manager. Then clicked 'Start' hoping it was as simple as that........no!!
I consider myself very technically minded and a quick learner but this has temporarily stumped me, perhaps I need to sleep on it or perhaps I need something a tad stronger!!

you didnt need to copy mg_cfg, delete it, uninstall the mgcamd plugin, reboot box, install mgcamd again and then only copy your newcamd.list to the keys folder, pm me your line and email and i will email you the correct newcamd

?
Mg_cfg isnt needed?
id always thought you had to have both files for it to work???
also I find mgcamd 1.35a works better gor me.

There is a dl in cloud dls with all he files you need. Mgcamd&cccam.
Use cccam for cline.
use mgcamd for nline.
also

Im just got go a zgemma box and im pulling my hair out. Im a total noob and need an idiots guide to setting up n line. I've got filezilla and have tried afew different things that people have said. could anyone give me a guide from start to finsh how what to do???? Someone please help.

Read through last few threads. Theres been 2 days of people laying it out.

U need mgcamd 1.35a running with 2 files in /usr/keys.

Its all downloadable as one file in cloud downloads here.

Best bet is start ur own thread so people can help if u cant still get it

He replaced the mg_cfg file from somewhere else, of course it is needed but in its original downloaded state. Once the cam is installed the only thing he needed to change was the .list, thats what i was getting at lol

Just a quick idea I'm a newbie to and I had to click on a channel then press my yellow or blue button to get my right channels list up before I could get mine to work hope this helps if not sorry for wasting your time it worked for me and nobody had thought of that lol

Thanks to all who have replied, much appreciated. Although I haven't actually got my test line to work on the S*y channels, the knowgratefully receivedve gained has been immense. I'm 99% sure that once I get my box going again! We'll be up and running in two shakes of a lambs tail!! Which brings me to a more pressing matter.......
For some reason my box refuses to boot up. I had turned it off with the button at the back, then when I turned it back on again......the display sequence read.....boot, then the count up to about 50, then flashed up to 90 odd, then read. -00-. !!
I haven't flashed or put anything on the box out of the ordinary except what was available in the control panel within the OpenAtv software environment.
Not sure what to do or why this has occurred, ps I haven't made a back up of my box, been too preoccupied with trying to get it going.
Would it he worth flashing with Sucumnsee's 'Vix' version elsewhere in this particular forum?
As per usual any assistance would be gratefully received.

IMHO I would use a VIX image as you will more than likely receive more support as most on the forum use VIX and can troubleshoot easier for you

I have vix on my gigablue and new to this these guys on here are very helpful and if you can find bees tutorial that's very good to I'm sure someone will know how to get you a link up and I think... world of sat.. Would have vix flash on there website I think you just put it on memory card formated fat32 and boot up your box

Thanks lads.
One more thing, according to sucumnsee's instructions, this build requires an usb if 4gb permanantly in the back of the box! Why is that?

Use one of Sucmnsee's images from downloads - as everything set up for you -apart from your region. He has made them available to help people out

To store EPG and swap file etc. Also handy for when you pause live tv. All this takes stress off the box. You can put up to 32GB pen in the box

You can also record to USB and download from TSmedia

Thankyou all, will.give it a bash (metaphorically speaking) tomorrow, will let you know how I go on.....
Glensorie.

4 gb is the minimum id suggest. If u can, use a hard drivepermanently in he box. Means u can really use the timeshift and record and playback all at once. Worth it

But has to be max 32gb to flash the image with.

Hi all......update !
Followed Sucumnsee's instructions to the letter on the download page for his build, flashed the image then configured a 16GB memory stick in the back and lo and behold my box has come back to life (not that I ever doubted it wouldn't) and is looking better than ever and easy to set up!! Hardest bit was waiting for the stick to LL format then Windows format, 16GB took ages!!
Thankyou all and special thanks to Sucumnsee...great build! Just got to get my line and give it a proper test run. Hopefully no problems this time.

Not sure why Cactikid posted this here either - maybe in error as the Zgemma hasn't been cloned yet or maybe he was pointing out that the Zgemma Star isn't officially supported by OpenVix? It may also have been down to the post by Squeeky further up the thread which suggests using official OpenVIX :no no:?

Be careful not to do an over the air update if using an unofficial OpenVix build as this has the potential to brick your box.

This is why I reverted to OpenATV which does support the box and hence is safe for over the air updates. I posted a link to my build on here the other day which is more recent than the one that would have shipped on your box from the factory and has most of the bugs fixed and with the settings done for you... It also looks better than factory OpenATV with a nice Blue HD Sky skin, and the plugins that sucmnsee uses too.

Sucmnsees build is great I don't want to put you or anyone else off it's a cracking piece of work - just be careful and understand the risks of OTA updates, I don't know of anyone that has bricked their Zgemma box yet but wonder how many people have inadvertently done an OTA update and now have the wrong drivers on their box? This could lead to problems in future..... If you want to upgrade anything with Sucmnsees build either sideload via .ipk files or wait until he posts the next version and flash your box again.

I think they're a super box, it's just a shame they don't have official OpenVix support - I understand why though having read the comments on here from one of the guys involved in the dev team.

Thanks for that mtpockets. Thanks for the thorough explanation regarding unsupported official builds, I now understand the risks involved in using this build and will be very careful Re.ota updates. I now understand what cactikid probably really meant to say instead of his red, large lettered text entry....
