Splitting Cable Signal - Does It Weaken

Hi all,

Just curious if you split the virgin media feed coming in to the house will these weaken the signal strength? I know it sounds like an obvious question but just wondering as the virgin box itself is cable of recording and watching another channel yet it only uses one feed. I take it their box splits the signal internally? I guess my question is if i split it manually will I get any picture break up?

Thanks

As long as you use the correct splitter then you won't lose much signal that will effect your setup.
If your signal is very low coming in then splitting it will cause issues, you would then have to use a powered HDU unit which can split the cable without signal lose.

Any recommendations on HDU unit my singal sometimes drops for VM and using speed test it goes down from being 40-50 to
8-16.

Help would be appreciated i bought a HDU 4 port PCT passive amplifier which was from the United States and it sometimes turns my internet of sometimes when its being used a lot.

Here's the one i bought:

Someone said the issue that this amplifier may not have been good is because it's passive and not active not sure what the difference is.

the ones the engineers use are the Technetix HDU ones. Try that but what is the problem you're having?

USB Cable tuner glitches whilst tuner B on cable is fine.

Issue occurs when both tuners are in use i.e. when im recording on tuner B and tuner C is put to use.

Any links to purchase one rare to find them can't find them mate.

Have a similar problem the signal coming into the house is so weak.
I have 3 things being fed:
  • TiBo
  • BB
  • Tuner A ;)
if its just TiBo and internet being fed. everythin is okay, as soon as i split with a Eco line 5/1000mhz splitter some channel pixelate or dont even clear on TiBo. and getting tune failed on a handle in tuner a.

did you find a solution XSONY_NGUX?
It is a new install and they have used technetix isolater.
I had a look at these
technetix is more money, but is less likely to cause issues?

Okay so now I've got the feed into the house into a 3 output splitter
  • tibo
  • BB
  • tuner a
still the same issue, so I would put it down to it being a weak feed?

If you've got a good quality splitter and good quality cables and connections then check there's no other splitters on the same cable further back and check they're screwed on properly.

The cables ive laid are good quality the link upstairs was already laid by Virmin so i assume it was okay...

Would you avoid at getting amp or not?

I did not fix the issue, i sold the usb tuner to a guy on here think it was ste lol xD

I did however purchase a Technetix HDU amplifier.

It might be due to the tuner A box taking too much signal so only solution would be is try a better cabler booster.

Konig as the link you included or try Technetix.

Got mine for £25 don't know what made me spend that amount but it's a rare booster xD

Yes I bought the hmp usb tuner - worked fine on the h2h with atv 5.3 to give me the additional tuner but now I've got the h5.2tc it's not needed so up for sale shortly lol

How did you get on with your Technetix HDU amplifier? did it do the job?
yeah i've tryed tuner a on its own without tibo plugged inand all the channels clear but when tuner a tibo and bb are all in only getting some channels on both box so does sound like not enough signal.

I ended up purchasing this:

I am thinking of getting the zgemma h5.2Tc box, do I require a splitter for the vm cable and if so which is best?

That depends what other equipment you have - you only need a splitter if you're using something else alongside the zgemma like a VM router. The best splitters are the Tratec / Technetix / Ecoline range of 5-1000mhz ones but i've also used the Labgear 5-2400mhz ones from Screwfix which have done the job fine. Use quality cable (wire) and the shortest length possible for the job.
