Cable VM splitting causing channel distortion

Hi, I've got 1 line in for my broadband and phone line package.

I'm using a splitter to split the broadband to the box also.

My problem is that while they are both active, the box has minor distortion and glitches to the image and video.
(Kinda like when you have low reception on Freeview).

It's not really bad but it glitches like every 2 seconds.

It's not the server/line as it even happens on FTA channels.

When the super hub isn't running a connection (such as unplugging the cable from it), the box runs just about perfectly with no glitching

I don't know whether it's something to do with the wifi signal affecting the box, or if it's the router messing up the splitter connection.

I had the same sort of issue but am running hub and 2 vm boxes. I used a 5-2450 splitter from the TiVo box. Which gave me problems. But before I changed the splitter I replaced the cables with better ones. eBay 252574138517 and all my issues went away.

Ah thanks for that item number, that'll come in handy. (My original super hub coaxial is exactly like that). Currently the cables are fine (for now), mainly the switch I need to get sorted.

So as I said yesterday, I went to the DIY shop and they had a 5-1000MHz splitter, however it costed £4 though it's probably worth £1.50 because of its horrible quality. It's obviously built very cheaply and I only bought it because it might've worked with the 5-1000MHz

Connected it up, and it's the exact same result as the first one, horrible glitching whenever someone uses the internet, but is not bad when no one uses, and no issues at all with the wifi router unplugged from the splitter. However this one reduces my internet from 55Mbps to 8Mbps.

I was hoping to get my box all working with a good line set for a few months by now, but this issue is making me rethink about having it.

My next step is to take a trip to a real satellite specialist store to get a decent cable splitter from someone who knows what they are doing. If that doesn't happen then I'm going for this, which looks very promising.

It's also worth mentioning, when my Broadband was installed, they attached a 10DB attenuater directly to the router. No idea what they are for, but google tells me they reduce the power. I'm not sure if this effects it but I feel like it's something that could possibly make a difference? Perhaps moving it to the input of the splitter, Or directly onto the box? Anyone got idea with that?

Firstly I would buy the splitter from eBay and take the other back.
Then try the new one with the attenuator on and off.

Still look at the cables you are using. Make sure they are good quality ones. Running both my boxes on the splitter caused picture freezing unless one was turned off. Once I changed the cables it was fine.

Just ordered the splitter, and 2 of those coaxial cables, should arrive Friday. I'll update then, wish me luck!
