What Box Will Work?

Hi TechKings forum,

First post, so be gentle...

Sorry this may be a simple question but i'm kind of getting lost in all the discussion around the boxes trying to find out what is best for me and what will work.

I've just bought my first house, so all this setting up for me is new, I'm getting Virgin internet installed on Thursday so I'm assuming that means I should get a cable based box but as I'm not getting TV so will I have the necessary cables?

I've been looking at ZGemma but I know a few of them are satellite, so I was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of what box is best for me.

Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks!

I'm not too bothered about the recording factor, I have a Raspberry Pi running Kodi for all my catch up series etc.

That being said is the H2H the best option then? The part I'm getting confused with is it looks like I have a dish on my property but the ethernet wall ports are all branded virgin.

That shouldn't matter, with virgin both the TV and internet signal is from the same cable where as with sky the feed is directly from the dish and your broadband can be from whoever.

What's your budget? Do you care about HD?

HD, not really.

Budget I suppose would be max £100 or so, but if there's something that will do the job for cheaper - I'm always up for that haha.

Main difference between a sky box and virgin is that with sky you won't get premium HD channels and on virgin some channels such as sky atlantic aren't available. Zgemma is fine but recommend having a look at the above mentioned thread some great suggestions in there. Zgemma is a great box for the money anything that costs less than it is probably not as good.

Thanks for all your help, just one final question (have tried reading that guide but still not 100%)

Do all ZGemma boxes work with a cable (VM) connection or is it only the Combo boxes?

Okay maybe one more silly question, I'd like the v8s openbox as it's cheaper.

I appear to have a satellite dish outside but is one of these the right connection for the v8s? I've got two black aerial leads coming from the wall and two white leads that have some kind of a connector and go under ground close to my TV.

Sorry, I know I'm sounding silly, but first house so forgive me

The V8s is cheaper for a reason. I Don't think you can make it look like sly or anything. I wouldn't want to comment on your wires. If you can track them from the dish into your house then the answer your looking for is probably yes.

I bought a V8S as my first low cost box, connected it up to the satellite wires that came through the wall in my new house and was delighted with my purchase. I took the plunge recently to buy a Zgemma, it appears to have better picture quality on the HD channels and it also has much much better recording facilities. I know you said that recording doesn't matter to you, but when the facility is there to get the box to record everything you are interested in watching on TV (but might not be available via the various catchup services) then you can have it just record them and they are there at your fingertips whenever you want to watch them. The Zgemma H2S (the one I bought) is about £80. I am so pleased with my Zgemma, and delighted with myself for upping my box.

i have v8s im wanting zgemma i have sky and virgin connection witch would you recommend plz
