i have formated and reinstalled windows. but i have drivers missing and cant access the internet on that Dell insperion 6000 laptop I have looked in Device Manager and have conflicts with
Erthernet controller, Multimedia Audio controller, PCI Device, USB Device,Video Controller, Video Controller (VGA Compatible).
I have been on Dell web site drivers and support and downloaded what i thought were the drivers but the only driver i could install was the Network adaptor, this has activated something with the wireless connecton. But i cant access the router it wont accept the wireless key from the router. wrong number of digets, the laptop is asking for a wep key and i dont have one on my bt hub. if i could get on the internet i think windows will search for the drivers. when i look at each item in device manager but there are no details about the manafacturer in the details.
many thanks Dave

Have you loged into dell with the pc box id no on the back of the pc that will bring up all details of your pc and drivers main one is intel for the M/B

If your network adapter is working why don't you connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable, then run windows update. Might find a few drivers for you. Failing that, have a search for "Driver pack solutions ". That has sorted me out a few times.

you really need to goto Dell web site and get those drivers or ask on the site for help..

windows xp needed alot of drivers installed once the operating system was installed. Windows 7 and especially 10 have alot of built in drivers into the OS that fixes the issues your having. not to be rude but xp is dated now, and microsoft stop supporting it in april 2014. Would you consider upgrading?

it had a windows 7 on it but im trying to use a cable that can access a car ecu whih works best with xp so thats why ive gone back to xp

if its a driver issue windows 7 32bit should still do it, thats if you had xp 32bit before. xp 64bit wasnt used like the way it is now?

had the laptop in for repair and been told they couldn't locate the drivers and its not cost effective to spend any more time searching. i am wondering could i buy a cd from ebay there are alot of choices for windows drivers on there. has anybody tried buying one

Yes i bought one for about £5 several years ago and worked for me. You should still be able to go to the Dell website and download what you also need? Which was mentioned in some of the earlier posts.

Yeah tried that but couldnt solve the problem. in the end i took it to a computer repair shop and they told me xp isnt supported anymore and to spend more time trying to find drivers for it wouldnt be cost effective. i didn't ask but i assume they looked on the dell web site

Keep in mind they may not have looked very hard. Have you thought about loading Linux on it, it may make it work better faster and I've loaded Linux on about 10 pc/laptop and never had to put one driver on, the kernel contains all the drivers, it just installs and works
