Cable Line Channels - Freezing / Glicthing Troubleshooting

I've read a lot of posts in the cable section regarding signal / internet problems potentially disrupting the cable services and I wanted to make this thread to make sense of it all and try and group it to one thread people could potentially visit for help. Experienced cable users - please add ideas...

Is it a signal problem? Check your signal into the box, if it's low then it's to do with the coax connection to the box. Below is what I would try...

1. Change coax cables - you will have one from the wall socket probably to a splitter, start with replacing that. If not resolved, next replace the cables to your sat box and router.
2. Change f-type splitter - splitters work at different frequencies, some of the Vets here could probably tell you which are the best but amazon has a bunch of different ones for less than a fiver so I would replace that next.

Is it an internet speed issue? If cable is similar to sat it needs about 4mb constant to clear a line smoothly. It's not about having the fastest speed, just something stable. I would follow the below if you think it's an internet issue...

1. Run a speedtest - just get an app on your phone to start with and then you can test directly on the box, I think theres a plugin called e2speedtest.
2. If the line is stable and fast enough, change the DNS to a public DNS such as google. Easy to do and tons of guides on youtube to follow if required.
3. Router issue? Virgins latest super hub 3 seems to come with a whole host of issues based off various threads I've seen on here. Most people suggest changing it to modem mode and trying your cable line then. If it's then stable, it seems most people would suggest a new router but I'm sure people on here have ideas of settings to change within the vm router setup.
4. Line issue? At this point if you have still got problems, I would try a test line from a different provider.

5-1000mhz are the splitters VM use but I have also used 5-2400mhz ones without an issue too - don't buy cheap unbranded ones - Tratec / Labgear are good ones.

Great advice, I would definitely use 5-2500MHz splitters and the official coaxial cables that come with the router if using a VM 3.0 Hub.

I also recommend using the DMZ function on the VM hub pointing towards the IP address of your box, restart your router and line.

This helped loads for me.

If you just have the virgin fibre and the cable I already installed they will just send you the super hub for self-install and will only provide 1 1m coax cable. I believe the cables are their own spec and can't be purchased as well. Seems to split opinions with just using usual coax cables vs their own...

i had really bad freezing and glitching, i tried about 4 providers and it was the same
so brought a new 5-2400 mhz splitter .. still the same
brought new webro wf100 cable.. still the same
then i saw a thread on here about someone who fixed it with a Konig booster so i got one from amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00O4FK2H8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it worked great and stopped all the glitching and freezing on both boxes

Yeah same thing happened to me bud tried everything so i bought the konig booster sorted all the glitching out.

you just plug the vermin main cable into the input and plug your box cable into one of the outputs
stick all the dials on max and sorted

So update to my first post - I've been troubleshooting a mates laggy HD channels and changing the splitter worked. Like others said above I had a konig 5-2400 MHz and that was causing the problem. Switched it for a labgear 5-1000mhz which matches vermins frequencies. No problems after that apart from bt sport hd 2 which for some reason is the only channel not clearing.

I did further digging then to find cheap coax cables are a no no for various reasons. Firstly because vm internet is docsis - you can cause interference on the line and can even affect everyone on your cabinet which will upset vm and they may well block you.

My suggestion is go for wf100 coax cables - it's designed for higher quality and you can pick up a 10m reel for like 7 quid. I would then fit with cabelcon 5.1 f connectors. This pretty much matches the grade of cables/connectors vm supply.

Thanks for the tips, I'm currently having similar issues with my setup. I originally had occasional glitching with a few channels but it has become slightly more frequent now and on a few different channels.

I've replaced the cable that goes from source to the splitter and still have the issue, next step I've ordered the labgear splitter you mention here as I'm currently using a cheap 5-2400mhz one.

Will see how that goes...

Yeah report back mate. I'm hopeful the splitter will fix your issue.

Set up my H2H yesterday and was getting glitching. After reading on here I swapped cheap splitter for an original VM one. Perfect picture now.

Just to follow up on this.. The splitter didn't solve the issue, I'm still waiting on some webro cable (I've got about 5m from box to source) but in the meantime I picked up a konig booster and that has sorted everything out..

When my cable arrives I will test that with the labgear splitter to see if it solves the issue but I know I can fall back on the booster if needed.

Wondering if it's because I only have a BB VM package they are only sending a certain signal level down the line...

Well the labgear splitter improved but didn't solve my mates signal problems. He pays for vivid 100 I think as well so not sure why. I'm looking for a booster - which did you get?

Am having a similar glitching/freezing problem on my miraclebox. After reading ur post i've ordered a booster to try. Hope it works.
Thanks for the info.
