VU+ Duo On Virgin

His Guys, Looking to get some information on Cable setup.
Can I use a VU+ Duo with Cable( Using MGcamd)? I had been using it for Sat. Not sure if the Dual tuners can work for either Sat or Cable or if they are only Sat or Cable
Any Help appreciated.

The spec says they are plug and play tuner slots so you can probably just buy a cable tuner and swap out the sat tuner for your Duo

VU+ Hybrid Dual / Twin 2x DVB-C/T/T2 Tuner £69

If not something like this will do the trick

Vu+ Solo SE V2 Twin Tuner DVB-C/T/T2 Cable / Terrestrial Linux HD PVR Ready Receiver

Then have a read here

Cable subs are about twice the price of sat, but you will have glorious HD !!!

The tuners on the original Duo were not plug and plug they were no slots hard soldered to the board.

Think bees is confusing the duo with the duo 2

Ahh yes, the old Duo + and Duo2 confusion trick !!

Then it looks like a new box and sub

Thanks guys, appreciate the info. New box seems the only way to go, I have used the VU. Is this (Vu+ Solo SE V2) the best option on the market at the moment?
Also, Can I use a splitter to split the cable before I connect to the box to allow for watch and record?

Yeah good box for the money, unless you want to pay extra for the newer FBC tuners on the 4K boxes.

The twin tuner only has one feed in so depends on your set up, you need one feed to the box and one to your router.

You may need a splitter and an F to ariel connector

The new Zgemma h5,2tc also only need 1 cable into the back of the box, as the twin tuner is split internally, so only 1 cable require m8

Interesting, the ability to supply just one cable and have it split internally would be my preferred option

the vu+ solo se v2 has been out for about a year, and it has the same tuner set-up as the h5,2tc box

I like the look of this box, seems to have a pretty awesome spec.
VU+ Uno 4K Twin S2 Linux Satellite Receiver

The box above is for sat and will cost another £70 if you want to add a cable tuner.

Something like the box below would be an alternative to the Solo box, but you will need to run your line with Oscam
as it's a 4K box. A single FBC tuner will allow you to record up to 8 channels at a time.

VU+ Uno 4K 1x DVB-C CABLE FBC Tuner Linux Enigma 2 Receiver UHD 2160p

I was actually thinking of getting the box with just the cable tuner and forget about the sat tuner. But wasn't aware of the requirement for Oscam. Is that as your said because it's 4k or because using Sat and cable would required multiple lines?

Looks like we are both getting mixed up with the specs

DVB-S2 tuners are sat tuners

DVB-C / T are cable / terrestrial tuners.

Vu twin tuners only require one input as it splits inside the box.
FBC either sat or cable tuners can record up to 8 channels with one coax input.

4K boxes need to run the line ( sat or cable) using Oscam as they use ARM processors rather than Broadcom

Hope that's a bit clearer

That's alot clearer mate, thanks. Now I understand why the Oscam is needed, I only just switched my current setup on Sat from cccam over to mgcamd. I'd prefer not to have to change again. In your opinion, Is there enough 4k content out there to justify the 4k box? My thoughts are hd will become standard at 4k, so why not have it.

The output is only as good as the signal coming in.

So for instance FTA HD channels are generally broadcast at 1080i and not even 1080p

The 4K or Ultra HD channels require an official box to view them you can't view them on dodgy boxes.

I believe there are some Euro channels if you go motorised and some IPTV content as mentioned above. However that said,
lots of IPTV state HD and broadcast at 720p although it does seem to be generally getting better.

Personally I would wait for more content and the price of the TV's to drop, but each to there own.
