Cyfra+ card doesn't work on all channels

Hi all,

I bought an Openbox V8S the other day because my existing set-up - Zone 2 dish and an NC+ Cyfra+ decoder, complete with a legitimate card - was giving bad glitching on a number of channels, and I just wanted a cheap way of checking if the Hotbird signal could perform better on a different box.

As it turns out, the Openbox plays all of the glitching channels without any problems - so I'm rather keen to get it working as my main set-up.

However, while the NC+ card does seem to work in the Openbox for the vast majority of channels that it should, some of the channels that worked happily on the NC+ box still come back as 'scrambled'. These include Nick Jr and BBC CBeebies - both channels that I'm keen to have access to.

Can anyone suggest a reason why this could be happening? Could these channels be using some form of encryption that the Openbox doesn't support? I can't figure out why the card works for some channels as it should but not for others.

Any advice or assistance gratefully received...

Regards to all,

If the card works on the Openbox for the other channels then your channel list might need updating, I have a Eurosub on mine and those 2 channels are working, check that they are on the right frequency, Nick Jr - 11075 V 27500, & BBC CBeebies 12476 H 29900, to rescan these frequencies Press Menu - Installation - TP LIST, look for 12476 H 29900, or 11075 V 27500 & Press OK, then OK again.
If you still can't get them or when your card runs out, you could then get a Eurosub, it will open most of these channels.
All the channel frequencies are listed here - https://www.lyngsat.com/packages/NC-.html

are they coming back as scrambled or NO SIGNAL ?
thats 2 of the TPs I have a weak signal on on my F5

Scrambled.

Thanks for the reply. I've done this and both channels still come back with Scrambled. I'm wondering if it's because these specific channels use the Box Key part of Nagra 3 encryption, and the others don't? I take it the Eurosub you're referring to is an online CCCAM thing? I'm keen to get a bought and paid for card working, if possible.

Thanks for all advice. I'm really struggling with this. I've updated the TP-LIST based on Europe, so it gets all of the hotbird TP details. Then I do a single satellite search, and I've done it on both a preset search (which took quite a while) and a blind search (much faster). Then when I hit the 'OK' button and bring up the channel selection window, I've occasionally found more than one BBC CBeebies in there - but the details at the bottom on its frequency and SID/VPID etc are all wrong.

I'm now trying to do a full EPG update to see if that makes any difference. Other than that, has anyone got a TP-LIST for European channels and transponders that would be more up to date than the one you download via the Network through the box?

Again, all advice gratefully received.

You won't get a channel list for Hotbird on the network download, try the channel list that steptoe posted above, if you can only get Hotbird 13E just delete the channels on the other 2 sats, you shouldn't need to update it for quite a while as the Hotbird channels don't change too often. (If you do a scan for new channels use the Preset Scan).

I've used the steptoe list now and BBC CBeebies info is as follows:

12476mhz, 29900ks, SID: 07d9 PID: 082a VID: 082b

Still says 'scrambled'.

In the info bar, B, I, CW and ND have grey backgrounds. S, V, N and CO have red backgrounds. SNR is 63%. There's a little B to the far left of the info bar as well. I get the correct time and some programme info as well now (% left and what's coming next).

Any further suggestions, anyone? Thanks again for all your help so far.

BBC CBeebies does freeze quite a bit with my sub but Nick Jr works well, maybe you won't get these with your card,
all the channels on the list up to the adult channels are the ones that have English audio & are gettable with a Eurosub, there are more Polish only channels on the rest of the list as well.

But that's just it. These channels do work on the nc+ box with the same card that's now in the Openbox. That's what I can't fathom - why the card decodes the signal fine on the nc+ box and does the same on the vast majority of the same channels in the V8S, but then there are a few where it doesn't. The listed frequency for those channels is actually 12475, not 12476 - should I try to manually change this somehow?

The other possibility is that these channels are using Nagra encryption (it's listed as one of their encryptions on the kingofsat index) and that it is in some way tied to the nc+ box itself. I notice the smart card options section on the OpenBox allows you to input Box Key and Box ID settings for Nagra, but I haven't a clue what my Box Key would be for the nc+ decoder, so that would probably be the end of that, if it's the case...

Changing from 12475 to 12476 won't make any difference, as you said it's probably something to do with the Nagra encryption, sorry I can't be of more help to you on this, - Mike

Thanks Mike. Yes, it made no difference. I bought the box from a UK supplier, actually, and I've noticed he does appear to be selling cards with BoxKeys as well. I've asked him if he already knows the BoxKey for my decoder but, perhaps predictably, he's not being particularly helpful.

A frustrating catch-22 situation, then. Either I get the channels my missus wants, or the ones my nipper wants - but not both of them in the same box, it would appear! :(
