Satellite installer - Rochdale

hi.
Got a problem with my motorised dish, won't move.
I've been up the ladder checked all connections on my motor, tried a different cable from the receiver to the motor, tried a different receiver.
Dish wouldn't move even when I pressed the button on my motor.
Now I think I've found the problem, the cable from the motor to the lnb is hanging down cos the cable ties have snapped off where it attached to the arm (because of the sun). So I grabbed the cable and moved it about while pressing the move button on the motor, it moves a little.
So the problem is more than likely a break in the cable, or a bad connection on the lnb end, I've checked the motor end.
Now my problem... I can't reach the lnb.
My dish is halfway up the roof on the gable end, I can reach the motor and the dish, but the lnb is stuck out about 4 foot in mid air.
Anyone got any tips on how to do this?
Or failing that recommend a sat engineer in Rochdale area that will come out and replace the cable, preferably without charging me an arm and a leg:emoji_grin:.
Thanks.

It should move as steptoe says as voltage is sent from the reciever not the lnb, and this will eliminate a short either with the lnb/port or cable feed from lnb to motor.

Some motors have a green led to confirm power is present and it basically also confirms there are no connection errors...usually there is also a reset button similar to a modem router for reset purposes.

I'm not far from you, but am crazy busy atm, so no way I could fit you in for about 3 weeks.
was even at work today for a few hours :(
Thanks for that.
If worst case scenario I might just take you up on the 3 weeks.
When I had my dish installed I rang every local installer and none of them wanted to do a motorised dish, one or two said I could have a go, not great for the confidence.
I ended up knocking on I guys door and asking him who installed his dish, so on his recommendation I got a guy from Preston. Only problem with that is its £80 before he starts. Worth it though cos he's great at what he does, dish has been up 10+ years and never gone out of line.
I'll see how I get on:)

Yeah it's got a green light, which sometimes is on, but when you wiggle the wire it goes off, so even though the green light is on its probably only just making a connection, probably not enough to move the motor.
Thought (hoped) it was a loose connector cos I've had problems with them before, they are the twist on connectors and sometimes work there way loose, only happened 3 times in 10 years.
I've now ordered some compression fittings along with the tool to install them, so hopefully that'll solve that problem, thought while I'm up there..
Like I said, might be a few days before I get the chance to get up there again, but will update with how I'm getting on.
Thanks for the help.

Just to update.
I've now disconnected the lnb wire from the motor and it still won't move, The light is on, green in standby mode, when I try to move it via the receiver the light goes to solid orange.
Also tried to move it via the manual button on the motor, nothing.
According to the manual.
Green light on - power on, standby mode.
Blink orange - receiving DISEqC 1.2 commands / reset mode.
Orange - error message : over current / reach hardware limits.....

Only thing I can think of doing now is changing the wire from my motor to my receiver. I've tried this already but not when the lnb wire is unattached.
Failing that I'm guessing it could be my motor.
:(:(:(:(

what receiver are you using.?
there has been some people mention problems with motorised dishes using zgemma
I'm using a gigablue ue. Bought a zgemma that wouldn't drive the motor at all and sent it back.
I got it moving, but it's still not right.
So I read online someone having trouble with their motor and someone had suggested to try sending the motor to '0', so I tried that and I heard it moving.
Then I tried moving it to my stored satellites, nothing.
Then I went into positioner setup and pressed moved west, (dish looks like it's pointing far over to east) it started moving west but then it just stopped and won't go any further (solid orange light).
I'd say and I'm only guessing, it looks like it's pointing to the east of 28.2e when it stops.
Before the troubles my sats were 42e to 30w.
I've tried turning "limits off" under positioner setting.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

if Friday affy is ay good Icould give you half an hour or so and stick my meter on your motor,
that would confirm if its your motor or cable of box that is at fault,

Yer i think i would try a reflash before changing cabling, i take it you tried the reset button on motor?
I didn't try a reset on the motor cos everywhere says send the motor to '0' then do a reset.
Not much good when you can't move the motor:)
I was thinking now I've got it to move abit, maybe a reflash might be one option.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks I'll let you know tomorrow.
Now I've got it to at least move I'm gonna try my old technomate receiver again tomorrow.
If the receiver is causing it to stop, would the button on the motor move it further west?
Again thanks, it's appreciated.

no worries bud,
I usually hit J18 about 3-3:30 on a Friday , so shortly after that would suit me best if possible
got beers to sort out later on,

That'll be fine, like I said I'll try the other a receiver and also get the ladders out and try the manual button on the motor.
I don't think it'll be the receiver as it stopped moving during all the heavy wind and snow a week or so ago.
But you never know...
I'll message you tomorrow afternoon and let you know either way, though I've got a feeling I'll be taking you up on the offer:)
Again thanks.

I didn't try a reset on the motor cos everywhere says send the motor to '0' then do a reset.

I beg to differ, if the reciever wont send it to 0 degrees then a reset via the motor itself will do no harm i would think, especially if you are now confident there are now no shorting/connection errors.... anyway steptoe is on the case so hopefully you will be sorted soon as because i am too far away...

@steptoe what meter is that... have seen them about but i am still using my old trojan rover master STC..No fancy screen on mine but i get by...show off lol
