setup now on thor, all channels scan in,time to have a play about tweaking things,Thanks to all for the usefull infomation.

Ok i was hoping for a bit of advice regarding a dish motor belonging to a mate of mine, the motor has got stuck between 2 sats and wont move, no matter what he does, he moved his dish manually last night just so he could get a signal, he ended up getting 1w but only half his channels were working on it now, still tried a few times to get it to move but it just wont, its been up for about 10 years without any problems, i am hoping for a few suggestions to try as i am going to call down to his house later to help him to fix it, its a 110cm dish on a scaffold pole at the bottom of his garden, so no ladder climbing involved, any ideas welcome.

Well if you know what motor it is, you will be able to find the buttons to a) manually try to move it via the buttons on the motor. b) reset the motor using another button or pin hole on the motor.
To be honest theres not much to work with info wise.
Could be faulty cable connection are the channels H or V that are missing or combination of both?
More info needed.

yes i know i havent seen it yet , just going by what he was telling me, get a look at it tomorrow morning and then get all the details of the motor and if we cant get it working then i will come back on with a bit more info, thanks manic01.

Stuck between sats, Check power from box to motor, but a 10 year old motor is likely to have plastic/nylon gear wheels which are possibly stripped. That is a big dish for plastic gears to turn in strong winds for 10 years.

After a run of 10 years I would cheerfully put my hand in my pocket and fork out for a new reliable motor---still quite cheap and plenty around. I use the Alsat dark motor [cost me 39 quid and works perfect]
Reaper.

Yes reaper thats the exact same motor that he has or close to, he said if you press east and west buttons at the same time for 5 seconds, then its supposed to reset it, but he tried this several times without success, so i am thinking its burnt out after 10 years, which is probaly a good run after all.

The motor won't reset if it has no power to it. 'Stuck between sats, Check power from box to motor'

From the Alsat Motor Manual.

HARDWARE RESET.

1. Cut off the power by disconnecting the coaxial cable.
2. Press and hold both EAST / WEST buttons for 5 seconds.
3. Reconnect the coaxial cable.
4. LED1 and LED2 blink for 5 seconds.
5. Then, its memory erased, the receiver rewrites the satellite table to initial one and corrects the “0”

Thanks reaper, i think thats what he has tried, but if not i will when i get to see it tomorrow.

the micro control relay in the motor could be faulty
I think he has decided to go for a new one as his current one is 10 year old, find out shortly, going to call to his house this morning to help him, i will check the relay out then too, thanks linesman66

Motor seems to have packed in so he ordered another one, took the old one down and connected it to the set top box and still it wouldnt move, tried 3 different cables also, so new motor and hope thats it sorted, thanks guys for the suggestions, much appreciated.
