both the H2 box and the router need a VM cable going to them, which is why you need a proper splitter.
if you have a Screwfix nearby, you can get a Labgear splitter, don't use a cheap nasty noname splitter as they are garbage.
whys it split in the box outside?
do you have vm cables going upstairs? - if so, you can split it here, one to the box and the other to the router

Yeah all you need is a male ftype adapter for the end of the cable and of course a dvb-c cable box like zgemma h2h or h5.2tc or similar

I have two cables coming in one for tv in living room and one for broadband upstairs cant get my head around why i cant use the tv cable as its the same cable split outside in the virgin box

you can use that cable, you just need an f connector (B&Q £1.50)
the box needs connecting to the router via a LAN cable

If your router is upstairs, then buy a pair of homeplugs to get an internet feed to your H2 box.

Then use one of these to connect the virgin coax to the tuner on your box.

Mine is split in the box outside as I originally had a TV package, and a router in a different room.

I got the virgin broadband in 2 weeks ago, went to screwfix for the labgear splitter and toolstation for the f plug to coax in the pic above.

Unscrewed the line in from the router, screwed the original cable into the splitter in and put a 6" patch lead to the router and made another f plugged lead from some old satellite Rg6 cable I had lying about. Ran that to the box with a long lan/ethernet cable, did a scan and there it all was... easy as that. I'll se if i can get a pic up that should make it even simpler...

I'm about to wire a new build house I'll be getting VM Internet in .
I will have 2 bedrooms upstairs living room downstairs where the router will be .
I'm thinking of putting tv into both bedrooms .
Can i use a 3 way splitter and run cable to the bedrooms if I want to be boxes in for the tvs

Depending on your initial signal levels and strength you may well require a powered splitter to achieve a good distribution etc ie a hdu 400 or similar
