I'm looking into putting IPTV on a firestick. I see lots of ads and places on the net offering a subscription service. Do I need a subscription? Or is it a case of buying an app then running a vpn to receive all channels? TIA

Yes you need a sub is the short answer, there are many apps that you put your sub on, including stbemu and SIPTV.
As for a VPN, it is not NECESSARY, regardless of what Nazo says. Try plenty of tests, particularly on a match day, if the footie comes through, you dont need a VPN.
VPN's slow your broadband speeds, so if you dont have a great connection, or have kids or others who are using broadband at the same time, you will not be thanked for it.

If you don't want your ISP knowing about streaming then it is necessary  but yeah seriously, a VPN can slow your connection right down.

I think I'd like to run a VPN. I have a good 350mb/s broadband speed, so hopefully wouldn't slow it down too much, would it be better to put a VPN on each device or on the router?
Thanks for the info above.

On each device, i recommend ipvanish as they have an app for the firestick, you can take out a moneyback trial too, if you dont like it then cancel.

Just to add, some providers forbid the use of VPN because they want to make sure you're not sharing your sub with others.
Haha that seems crazy, isn't that exactly what the provider of the sub is doing themselves?
I think I need to really read up on what's what, as I feel I definitely want a VPN running, but again it's interesting that it's possible, you say you can share a sub, without the provider knowing.

Yes, its interesting to suppliers too as those demanding to use a VPN get turned away by good providers and end up using a server with 250 paying customers and 50000 non paying customers and you can imagine how fabbo that will be

As far as I'm aware and from what I've read and heard since thinking of getting IPTV, a VPN is needed (it is also something I've been considering getting for quite some time).
I just thought the comment of "some providers forbid the use of VPN because they want to make sure you're not sharing your sub with others" as a double standard, the provider of the sub is quite happy to rip off the original suppliers, but it'd be wrong to do it to them. But I can see where your coming from, people will try to take the mick, probably selling there sub on again and again. Tbh that isn't something I'd want to do, but if running a VPN allows me to share the sub with family members in my own house, then yes I'll do that, not for profit.

Which is why you will only get a crap server.
Suppliers who offer a good service dont allow VPN and neither is it required with that server.
You can insist on anything you like but youve already informed anyone providing you with iptv that you intend hawking it to all and sundry, let us know how you get on

I can only assume you are a provider that's getting there back up? Plenty of places to get IPTV from, I'm just asking the questions. And I know for a fact, I will get a very good provider, as I will research. It's my money that'll be going to some dodgy dishonest person somewhere.

Interesting viewpoint... however, I think there has to be a bit of 'honour among thieves' sometimes. Someone is ripping off the big boys to provide us with a cheap service, personally I wouldn't dream of screwing a provider in the way you suggest.

Good luck with that one, any of the decent iptv providers on here will know to avoid you from here on in.

You are much mistaken on all points, but thanks for taking part
It's highly commendable that you refer to providers as thieves etc but you are perfectly happy to resell the service to family members to make your own sub cheaper or free, congrats

I wasn't planning on screwing over a provider, I just thought the comment "some providers forbid the use of VPN because they want to make sure you're not sharing your sub with others" to be quite funny in the grand scheme of things.
Now I have no intention of selling on subs, as some others probably would, and neither did I know that was possible until it was mentioned in this thread. However, if I know I can get a sub and be able to duplicate that sub in more devices in my own home, then yes that will be done and I would pretty much bet my house on it, that 99% of others would do exactly the same and why wouldn't you? Yes you say "honour amongst thieves", but thieves are the lowest of the low and if they can get more for nothing, they will.
As for the VPN, this was something I'd always planned on before I knew the information I know now. And from reading on this forum and others and from what I hear, a VPN is definitely something you should have in place. The only ones appearing to say "not" are the providers of subs.

I think you'll need to read exactly what I put "allows me to share the sub with family members in my own house, then yes I'll do that, not for profit." It clearly states not for profit.

There would maybe be one or two providers that would allow their service to work on more than one device, but most would give a multi room sub for a decent price too, I dont think a VPN is needed and I am not a provider.
