New to this - would appreciate some advice

Hi guys, I'm a relative newb to the iptv game and would appreciate some advice.

My subscription to an iptv service has just finished and i'm now looking at the options available. The service I subscribed to was run through a closed facebook group and I watched it via a firestick. The service was ok on the whole but I really missed the facility to record stuff.

I was running the iptv alongside a legit sky subscription so I was mainly using iptv to watch the champions league footy matches on bt sports - the stream quality was a bit hit and miss - sometimes it was perfectly watchable, other times it wasn't very smooth and stuttered.

As my sky sub is coming to an end in the next few months, I was hoping not to renew it as it's getting so expensive. My basic questions are:

1) Is it possible to have a box that I can watch all the FTA channels via satellite (using the existing coax feeds) and also access iptv (for the sports etc?). My thinking is that this will give me better quality for the majority of my viewing on FTA - using iptv to watch all channels and content will be a bit clunky and worse quality? (pls correct me if I'm wrong lol)

2) What is the best way to go about this? Is there one box that can do this? I would like to mimic the sky plus functionality as far as possible so it is important that I can record/pause both the FTA channels and also the iptv content - is this possible?

3) In terms of iptv providers, I understand I need to put a post in the other thread and people will get in touch. What questions should I be asking them in terms of what I need?

Many thanks for reading and all the advice.

Welcome to tech kings mate lots of useful information on here for you to take in and have a read of rules and best off posting in iptv section

there's lots of boxes can do what you require.
Yes there's about 100 channels still available on Sat using a line from a provider, including BT Sports 1,2 and 3 but no sky sports or sky movies
The same box will run the Sat line and iptv at the same time, there's plenty of box reviews on this forum so have a good read

On this subject , I have my own plex server running on a nas , is there a box that will let me use a dish ( with a sub ) for standrad channels plus will support an app for IPTV and let me play my plex content and be able to pause rewind etc ( live tv ) ?

I have an android box and a couple of firesticks, but I have dish that currently isnt being used so that would give me standard channels , tried Zgemma55 when they first came out but the plex option with enigma2 was pretty unreliable, without looking, the formula box that would do what i am asking is very low powered i think from memory.
had a shield , couldnt stand the user face also i wasnt aware that you could live pause record etc using shield.

All the dish would do is provide freesat and fta and remaining sly channels mate but you would need a device that has lnb if you search through forum there is some guides as to which box is best there is a thread about formula boxes and nvada shield aswell mate

If you go for an enigma 2 box you can run the basic satellite channels and Iptv and If you use Xtream Editor for your Iptv you get 7 days catchup on all uk channels so no need to record anything.

Thanks for that but I want to use a plex client on the same box to access my own plex server for VOD , ythe plex option i had my gemma was hopeless also iptv never ran smoothly on enigma box , I just think they weren't made for iptv , even the i55 never impressed me.
Of course it may well be that a higher spec enigma box would run IPTV better ?

I'm using i55 for my iptv and it's smooth mate plus it depends on how you have iptv setup

A couple of years ago I would totally agree but Iptv has come a long way now and with the right provider and setup it's pretty good now.
