Hi everyone am i right in thinking you need a usb stick, or hdd for epg storage, if thats the case what size usb stick do you need and do you have to delete every now and then or does it over right the files, trying to learn more about this box... ( vu+ solo ) before i go down the road of buying one, i beleave it comes with vix 3.0... if someone can help me how easy this box is to use, i have only been using the F5 so quite new to all this...

The box is brilliant to use and the plugins you can add are brilliant also.
I use a USB stick for my epg cos if you use your h/drive then it will be spinning all the time so i'd defo go with a USB for EPG. You will only need a small sized one about 1 Gb should be plenty. Can't remember how much space it actually uses but in the settings on the box you point your EPG to the USB and thats it. You don't need to delete anything as you just update it and it overwrites whats there.

many thanks in advance :-)

i use a kingston 8gb micro as it wont get knocked out,it needs to be fat32 formatted in pc first, blue button-vix-mount manager-choose your usb and mount it- swap manager-activate it, epg setting will need changing from flash to usb ,box may say it needs rebooting first less spinning vix time with usb.

epg settings automatic refresh yes automatic save 24hrs

cactikid I have a problem with following how to use and setup usb this is whats happening first is it possible to do this with a cloned box ? and how do I setup the epg settings please ? I did the part blue button -vix-mount found usb and mount it then it said needs rebooting said yes it then says your vu+solo is rebooting the goes off light flashes once red then green but doesn't turn it back on had to turn off at the plug and then back on aging ???? then if I goto swap manager and try to activate info comes up saying swap file not found. [you have to create the file before to activate ] so I try to create then it reads [sorry no physical devices that support SWAP attached cant create swapfile on network or fat 32filesystem's any idea what im doing wrong ?:beg:

ok after you have mounted the epg and box has rebooted go to menu-setup-epg-settings--epg location change to /media/usb , press green button for ok, go into
"configure"..cross epg setup..enable csv import to yes, schedule download once a day, time??? press ok to save exit back to crossepg---open tv providers-sky uk open tv astra2 on 28.2 press ok green tick appears press download ,page will change and come back after a few mins then press save and exit out of system. you should have epg on channels now.

for the swap file go to menu system hard disc-initialisation and select usb,red to initialise when done go to convert ext3 filesystem to ext4,select usb might take a few minutes or longer, then blue button-vix,swap manager, you may get a number of settings for swap size i chose 96mb,then choose the coloured butons and you should see a green tick for enable swap at startup and status active.

hit and miss with me also still learning lol

my god i have more greyer hairs since that post,i changed from 96mb to the highest number at the bottom.

as from post 7 if any are reading a swap file was used then on boxes that struggled like vu duo and solo.

modern faster boxes should not need a swapfile now.
