Painting a radiator

Has anyone tried using a paintpad to paint a radiator did it work or did you get the orange peel effect? I normally use a roller then draw down with a brush but potentially something like a paint pad could leave a super smooth finish.

I normally leave the radiator on the wall and have the TRV set to 1 when I paint and then turn it to 4 when I've finished. Bit nervous about spraying with the rad on the wall.

Use a good car enamal paint and its really good,Keep the can at 18/20 inches away and spray from side to side and you will get a nice fininish,Gets a bit sticky with gloss and brushing

Yeah I did actually use a paintpad with Leyland trade gloss. Turned rad on to 1 on TRV after painting turned up to 4. Showroom finish. Very happy.

Hi mate, if you use oil based paint, i.e. Gloss, you will get yellowing as the oil leeches out due to heat. Enamel is best and allow to dry before restoring heat to prevent orange peeling. Spray is best but rad really needs removing. Screw fix do excellent rad spray.
If yo want to match the wall use same emulsion, it will be fine.

Cheers. I spoke to a few P&D's about the paint and they reckon the Leyland paint doesn't leak oil. Looks good at the moment. I was concerned with taking the rad off as the plumbing looks ropey!
