I am thinking of getting the Edision mini OS box and have a 2.5" external HDD via USB only no external power supply had anyone had issues doing this I'm reading that people have had problems with box reading the HDD via USB.

Or should I go with the xtread et7500?

Thanks

You should be fine just make sure to use the usb port at the back of the box.

Im selling a brand new Edision os mini twin sat for 85 pounds with 2 year warranty if your interested

Can anyone help with sub/hdd install go to storage devices initialisation then swap file created and auto start but when download anything to pvr nothing works

My 500GB USB HDD was initially detected but conked out after about 15 mins.
Not enough power from the USB.You might get away with using both USB to power the HDD but powered is the best solution.

My guess is your HDD was just from a bad batch. A powered HDD with the Edision OS is not needed.

I have a Seagate 500GB HDD with an Edision OS Mini + (it's worth the few extra quid to get the "+" version, that is H.265 compliant). Works great. Bought from the Openvix sponsors, easy to set up, very low power consumption. I have it attached to a 1.1M dish, and channel hopping across 4 lnb's is fast. Picture quality is excellent..... There are also no problems using this box as a PVR and pause live TV. Just be sure to have a USB 3.0 HDD.

I can assure you the HDD is fine a Samsung HDD,it's now being used in and Xtrend with no problems.
The Edision does not have the power to drive a normal HDD from a single USB.
Many different posts from various forums confirm this. You might get away with a low power HDD but how many people have these lying around.I pulled my HDD from an external USB HDD.

The Edision OS Mini + does have the power to run an external HDD. I know, I have one with a HDD attached and working absolutely fine.

I am glad your Xtrend works for you, but that only means generates the question, why are you advising people incorrectly regards the Edision machines? My box, works fine.

Timeshift recording works without fuss - no power outages.

An optimal HDD as I said in my previous post would be a USB 3.0 device. Why? because the data transfer rate is better for recording and stability.

Furthermore, if you are now using the same HDD internally in an Xtrend machine, would I be right in assuming you had it in an enclosure prior to that? Therein may lie your problem.

Setup storage devices initialisation swap file created shows media saved to media/hdd but nothing works, how hell fix this

You shouldn't need an active swapfile on the Edision OS Mini. When you say nothing works, what are you trying to do? Also have you tried installing the latest Vix image and starting from scratch?
