Simple kitchen planner

Hi guys,

my new house purchase is just going through and the kitchen is being changed when we get in it, I have looked online for a kitchen planning tool but can't find one basic enough to basicially map out the shape of the kitchen and stick units where we think we would like them, so I can order it in advance, if anyone knows of anything I may have missed I'd appreciate the help.

As well I'm aware a kitchen place can do this for me, but its a case of I know a guy so it isn't an option.

Thanks.

Pretty easy to do,Work out where you would like things to be as in sink, appliances,Units ect,Draw a basic sketch of the room and dimensions and take it to your local B&Q and they will do you a plan

I got a mate who has a business to sort a visit and he also gave me the vat back :-)

If you haven't got it sorted yet let me know, I could get you a drawing done if you send me your wall sizes and a list of machines needed (Washing machine, dishwasher etc).

I've done quite a few house renovations and my tip would be to get as many (free) ideas as you can. Loads of places offer free design touting for business. Homebase, Wickes, Wren, B&Q etc etc. Wren have stripped down carcasses of their competitors so you can see the build quality. It's worth the time talking to these people since they do it day in and day out and will come up with ideas you won't have thought about.

Stick to the basics, loads online about working triangle etc. The room itself will dictate a lot of the design (windows/door position). Once you've sorted a design, go to www.diy-kitchens.com to order the units. They are fantastic quality for the money (better than Howdens in my opinion). I have no connection with that business, just a happy customer.

Oh, don't worry about spending loads of fancy knobs and handles. After 5 minutes you don't notice them since it's the kitchen itself that should stand out not the door furniture.

Finally, don't buy a cheap extractor hood. The previous owners of my house put in a new kitchen a year before they sold. It had a cheap and nasty Lamona hood. (Howdens own offering although the kitchen units were from elsewhere). It was noisy even on the lowest setting, looked cheap and was soon ripped out and replaced by a Bosch.

also be aware of installing power points near water as its a shocking thing:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::grin:

An electrician found this out the hard way when he came to do a job in my kitchen
