Technomate twin upgrade

8eaker

Newbie
Hi all,
Looking like my technomate twin is on its way out so looking for replacement box.
Considering wetek play 2 as it runs android and can therefore in theory run Netflix, nowtv, plex etc as well as possibly iptv.
Not sure if this is the right move from enigma2 though. Also considering formuler 1, mutant hd51 or perhaps a vu+ box.
It needs to support sat free view. Ideally recording but not essential, plex would be a great bonus but found it very ropey on technomate. The other thing I use a lot is streaming from on room to other from technomate using e2stream so would like to keep that functionality.
Which would you recommend?? At cost of vu boxes and mutant, could potentially get both wetek and F1.
Any advice gratefully received

I use a Vu+duo2 and ultimo for running sat and IPTV and quality and support are excellent as you would expect. If you are looking for something a bit cheaper Zgemma H5.2s,H7s or the new H9s seem very good for the money.

Thanks for reply.
Vu always seem to be regarded as the some of the best boxes out there but a pricey - maybe a price worth paying?
But I also see Mutant HD51 getting good reviews and the F1 for its price looks promising. Do these compare with Vu or simply not in the same league?
With the wetek Play 2 I was interested to hear what people thought. Is Enigma a better way to go? Having used Enigma for a few years now, would I regret the play 2. Is it a step back?
As said, I found the plex plugin very flakey on the Technomate but maybe it just wasn't powerful/fast enough to cope?

Zgemmas do seem another good option, but lack of Vix support (what in real terms does that mean?) seem to suggest thats really down at the budget end, but perhaps worth considering?
Thanks

It's all down to budget and what you want to use the box for.I have had Vu+ boxes for years and are fairly future proof and pure quality and never had a problem with them.On sat I used openvix and it was a very good image but when I started using IPTV and sat I find wooshman and ipab images better, but that's just my choice. To me I wan't a quality box which is fast enough, has a built in hard drive and is made from quality components.. Never liked the android operating system, and the same goes for mag boxes so for me enigma 2 is far better . However I do use an android box for Kodi etc as they run that very well and I find having a separate box for that is far easier that having everything on one box,at least when i want to upgrade things(which is fairly regular) I can still watch my tv. Most resellers use the cheaper boxes to keep the price down as people will generally go for the cheapest which I totally understand but cheap is not good and good is not cheap.Cheap boxes use cheap components. When you look how much money you are saving on Sly subscriptions you can afford to treat yourself to a decent box. People seem to like Formuler 1, mutant hd51 but never used them so can't comment See what other people recommend.

Thanks for comprehensive reply.
Technomate wasn't a cheap box but hasn't been 100% reliable. Blew up power supply, flaky running plex, and after 4 years I think it's on its last legs. Power tripped recently and suspect technomate was responsible and now lcd and remote don't work.
If I knew vu+ was going to be a different league, I'd be happy to push boat out.
Mutant seems like middle ground and fast on paper. Formuler 1 seems more a risk but good spec and price.
Oh what a game
We have 2 rooms regularly used with TV and currently stream via e2stream to smart TV which works well when e2 box isn't dying.
Both rooms has sat cable so perhaps go for f1 and wetek and install one on each room. Maybe mutant and wetek? Or just blow whole lot on just 1 vu+
