VPN not for streaming

I know vpn has been done to death, but that seems to be mostly for streaming/iptv
I work away a lot and quite a few hotel and B&B wifi restricts what you can visit on interweb,
so, I've got myself one of these
just wondering if there is any major benefit between VPNs for general web browsing/downloading etc.
been looking at digibit and nord, I basically just want the cheapest one I can find for basic web access,

That router is a good choice. I am using one, and have ran openvpn on it using PIA, Windscribe and VPN Unlimited without any issue.

You can often get some really decent deals here. What is on offer varies over time but $15 for 500 months of RA4W offering openvpn sounds ok to me, unless you want to buy monthly to test the water. I got my Windscribe Pro and VPN Unlimited subs through them, for peanuts, without any issue.

You probably know already, but if not this should help you set it up.

thanks @Speedygonzal
I didnt actually know any of that, I dont often use VPN , and when I do, I have it built into my PC [ Linux ] for the services I use.

OK
so, what am I doing wrong,
I cant get a connection on ANY server,
have tried loads of servers from RA4W, and have a free trial from Proton,

OpenVpn is not started

Looks like you have an authorisation failure. Have you tried your vpn subs with one of their pc or smartphone clients? If the latter works then the issue is your GL router/setup.

I have never used proton vpn, but according to this it seems to be a bit like PIA, where you get a set of username/password for their openvpn service that is different to the username/password for the PIA account. If so you would need to use the former in the GL router openvpn setup.

BTW the MT300N referred to in the link and your AR300M have identical setup procedure and openvpn file requirement.

OK, I'll have a look at whether the username/ PW are different, have the same issue using RA4W as well.
Will maybe email the help desk, I'd it exists, lol

Have you got it to work on another platform such as your smartphone or tablet? If that works then see below, if not please try that so that you can be sure your login credentials work.

If it works on another platform, then have you downloaded the vista specific vpn client? It is the middle one in the webpage here.

If that is the one you downloaded and it doesn't work what error message do you get? Have you tried asking them using the online chat box that pops up?
