Improve IPTV Performance/Buffering 1080p Content

Fixed it! Thanks to browsing through this excellent forum on TK! Here's what to do first download Serviceapp.
Serviceapp is used to play extplayer it helps with buffering. You can download it from plugins. Menu, plugins, green to download plugins then systemplugins and choose serviceapp and reboot box.

Then depending on image serviceapp should be in Gui settings or system menu somewhere.

In Serviceapp change Enigma2 playback system to serviceapp...in that choose exteplayer3, then in Xtream Editor plugin change service reflash back to openatv type also to extplayer (not sure if that actually does anything....maybe try the default DVB player as well...as this should now be exteplayer3 ?) and then reboot box.

You need to be on a recent image for serviceapp to work. I use Wooshbuild infinity.

I wouldn't say the picture is perfect but its a lot better and some HD channels which were unwatchable are now very good. Thanks Guys :)

Cancel / delete the above....when I tried to record something using epg my zgemma box crashed....ended up having to reflash back to Openatv and then re-install wooshbuild...then restore image...Nightmare. I think there is a compatibility issue with zgemma and wooshbuild using the extplayer via Serviceapp / Xtream editor / epg clash or something. Back to square one again...

working ok again now after re-flash. Using the extplayer in serviceapp as well as in xtream editor. I think the crash was caused by trying to record something from old epg data...start with a clean image, always make a backup first and repopulate the epg after you have switched players. Jerky playback has gone from nearly all channels and the old Zgemma is even handling US UHD, high frame rate streams with ease. No need to buy a new box just yet! :-)

I've set my channels to 5002 using iptv bouquet maker and have set exteplayer3 as the default. Everything seems good so far but It's only been an hour or so. The freezing on default setting was doing my head in.

Just wondered what's everyone's thoughts now you've been running it a while? Do you still get freezes?

mines been a lot better since the tweaks I made. I get the odd bad day when channels go blank or loop occasionally...often a router and box reboot will fix it...but that is more likely down to supplier or streams from elsewhere / USA. I'm pretty happy with mine right now...especially as I have freesat and freeview all on the same Zgemma. Might even take down the old moving dish soon ;-)
The only pain is recording IPTV is difficult...as I think I have to switch players back in order to do that. I hardly ever do want to record that though...as I have the afore mentioned freesat / freeview.

Cheers for the reply Scooby

Its made such a difference changing the stream type to 5002 and using exteplayer3. No more freezes but too early to tell if it buffers as well as a mag for example does if there's a slight drop in connection. Do you know what the default buffer size is?

Only slight niggle I have found is it doesn't show stream info in the skin I use in the info bar. But honestly that's just nit picking.

Also works really well with the auto refresh rate setting on openatv. 50hz 60hz 24p etc

I've found an issue and not sure if it's just my player (zgemma h9s) that's the problem. On certain channels I get sound but no picture with 5002. 4097 doesn't have this issue but has another issue for me where it puts uk channels in 60hz mode.

Looking at the details of the stream with no picture (menu, information, service) it's seeing these as hevc. I think it's probably reporting them wrong?

Does anyone else get sound but no picture on there channels using 5002?

Cheers

youre welcome Rob...buffer size I don't know...I do use a swap file on the zgemma which probably helps. I had to switch back to original player... ie turn off the service app player (in order to record something)...HD streams do not play well without it! I do get the odd audio issue...out of sync sometimes...but that's the stream usually. Don't think I have had sound but no picture on the zgemma ( I do get picture no sound on smart tv app a lot!). Are you using Xtream editor? Have you updated that to the latest version? Have you set service type to 5002 in xtream editor as well as ext player in service app? Different combinations of these 2 might help? Maybe someday there will be a better player / service for zgemma / E2 boxes which will allow recording.

Hi Scooby

I'm running a zgemma h9.s so I'm wondering if it's something to do with my hardware? I havent tried Xtream editor yet but might give that a go tonight if I have time. The way I'm doing it at the moment is by IPTV Bouquet maker (e2m3u2bouquet) and then setting the streams in the provider config to 4097, 5002 etc. Then going in to service app and setting the player to exteplayer3.

If I use Xstream editor do I still need to use IPTV bouquet maker?

Cheers

I recommend Xtream editor but your provider has to support it...some do, some don't. Xtream editor sorts out my IPTV bouquets but I still use AutoBouquetsMaker for my freesat and freeview channels. This way...with a helpful and knowledgeable IPTV provider you get a pretty good epg for everything. I am happy with it anyway...it's the best setup I have had for years. My zgemma is the H.2H..it's pretty old now but I have no real need to update at the moment. Maybe when 4k streaming becomes more popular I might...we'll see. I am not sure if the H9.S is better, worse or the same hardware wise...maybe someone else can comment on that...but just update all the firmware and plugins (make a full backup image first!) and see if that helps. Sounds like you are pretty close.

I've signed up for a trial and configured xtream editor now. I can't try it currently as at work but didn't see an option in the web interface where I can select the service type (4097/5002). I guess this has to be done in the plugin?

Cheers

yes, it's in the plugin settings. You should be able to install xtream editor for free, I did...your supplier will have to pay to use it...should be free for you if they support it. It is for me anyway.

Do you not use the online part of the editor? I could only see a standard and pro versions. Both of which are charged for the year.

My provider doesn't use Xtream (to keep costs lower).
So I created a 12 month xtream account (£12) & added the m3u given to me by my provider, now I have complete control over all channels, bouquets & even EPG sources...

It was easy, I fully recommend it!

I did the same as well, way to go. £12/year is a good value for money and you can remove bouquets not needed.

You have to set stream type in xtream editor plugin.

Cheers

Zgemma and IPTV recording is a major pain....tried everything ! I genuinely think its the H2s box not the software then I see people wiht the 4k box having issues as well....

Hi Paul

I have a h7s 4k zgemma , run both sat and iptv via xtream editor
I can record anything I like , even set to record when I want

Now I dont really need to record live tv , as I have loads of catchup channels
and I can even record them . I always use a clean openatv image
dont like to use builds as there is too much crap with them

xtream editor also gives you the epg , so no other plugins needed

So are you basically saying you use open ATV without wooshbuild infinity???

How do I turn off the service app?? Mine keeps blue screening when I try... Idiot proof instructions would help LOL

Menu /system /usage and gui /service app. Change from service app to original. Also change player in Xtream from ext3 player.

You don't have to use builds. Infinity and the like come with lots of stuff installed which you might not need and using straight Open Atv you can just install what you need. Builds are more to make things easier for people.
