Simply put it's a system whereby the actual software applications are resident on the Web and not your computer and that includes the OS too.
This month, Google finally announced the imminent arrival of the first Chromebooks - netbook computers running the cloud-based Chrome operating system that is basically a web browser. They will be made by Samsung and Acer, and will be available online starting June 15th.
This is the video from the Chrome keynote at Google I/O and while it is quite long, it's well worth a watch if you want to see first hand what's soon to be reality for end users, in fact it's only fourteen days away.
