Hi guys, I'm looking for a new nas enclosure. I'm currently using a synology ds412+ that's started playing up a bit, I'm looking at either the synology ds416 play or the qnap ts453a 4gb. Does anyone have any recommendations which one to go for.

Definitely a good choice purchasing the HP Microserver [emoji1360] Have you decided on an OS?

I run Ubuntu on mine and it's rock solid.

I was thinking of going down the XPEnology route, would probably be easier for me to deal with at the beginning

Openmediavault is good and easy to setup

I've used OMV as well as FreeNAS etc and always came back to Ubuntu. If all you want is a basic NAS drive to serve files then they are fine. If you want more functionality though I found the plugins etc were often out of date or it simply didn't support the applications I wanted to use.

True, but I would stay with Linux tho as freenas and nas4free are based on BSD which I don't personally like but Ubuntu would be OK, or even xubuntu
