The Smurfs led the foreign box office for the fourth weekend in a row, tying Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 for the longest streak in 2011. Also for the fourth-straight weekend, Rise of the Planet of the Apes ranked second, while Final Destination 5 came in third. Meanwhile, Deathly Hallows Part 2 reached what should be its final milestone in its remarkable box office run.

The Smurfs added an estimated $23.3 million from 71 markets. It had a handful of smaller openings throughout the Middle East, Asia and Scandinavia. Its top new territory was the United Arab Emirates, where it debuted to a huge $1.85 million. The movie's foreign total reached $295.8 million, bringing its worldwide (domestic plus foreign) total to $427.8 million.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes scored an estimated $19.3 million from 52 markets, including a strong $5.25 million debut in Mexico. It also held extremely well in Brazil (down 14 percent to $3.1 million) and France (off 33 percent to $2.3 million). The prequel's overseas total reached $185.1 million, and, on Sunday, it passed the Planet of the Apes remake's $182.2 million (though it obviously still lags in attendance). With openings in Italy and Japan to look forward to, Apes still has a lot of money left to earn.

Final Destination 5 grossed $18.7 million from 35 territories for a foreign total of $58.3 million. It had a respectable $4.7 million first place start in France, and it also held the top spot again in Russia with $3.6 million. The movie had a poor debut in Australia, though, where its $1 million was just over half of what The Final Destination opened to two years ago. With a worldwide total just shy of $100 million, Final Destination 5 is set to expand in to South Korea this coming weekend.

One of the summer's biggest disappointments, Cowboys & Aliens, continued to drag along, adding $9 million from 46 markets for a total of $50 million. That included a decent $2.1 million first place start in Spain. Cowboys moves in to Brazil, Finland and Norway next weekend.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 earned an estimated $5.5 million, bringing its foreign total to a huge $937 million. That pushed its worldwide total past $1.3 billion, making it the third movie in history to reach that milestone.
