Arqiva and Freesat sign deal securing "Home Transponder" service December 6th 2017

A key part of Freesat's infrastructure has been secured following a contract extension with Arqiva.

The communications infrastructure company has confirmed an eight year extension to the contract to deliver fibre data collection and uplink services for Freesat has been signed.

Arqiva's services enable Freesat's Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) to reach viewer's receivers via the Freesat Home Transponder, which delivers updates to receivers via satellite. The contract extension ensures a seamless service into the next decade.

The deal extends a 10-year partnership between the two companies, which dates back to the launch of the free-to-air television service as a joint venture between the BBC and ITV in 2007.
