BM500s - boot loop - skin issue, not firmware

bigegg

Newbie
I bought a Blademedia BM500s from the carboot sale for £3 :)

It worked fine :)))
but... whilst "playing" I changed the skin, and now when I reboot, it sticks in an infinite loop of bootscreen (it's a nabilisat cat picture), then goes dark, then back to the cate picture...

I run fedora (linux), but have access to windoze. I have a rs232 null modem cable, and the blade box is physically connected to my LAN (but no IP address is assigned - I assume it's crashing before DHCP)

can someone point me in the right direction to access the box, so I can alter the configuration back to a working skin? or a way of factory resetting by hardware, rather than the OSD?

thanks

Managed to sort this out - learnt a lot about serial port comms and the bash shell whilst I was at it :)

I ended up flashing the original firmware from blademedia via dreamup - but I had to use windows, because it failed to connect via linux/wine - I'm guessing a permission error, since I was running as a normal user.

hello guys,

quick question, what's the difference between an image file and Nfi file.

Please help with information.

Many thanks
