Cable sub and broadband

I currently have a cable sub and have VM broadband. My question is do I need to continue having VM as my broadband supplier to keep my cable sub working or can I change my broadband supplier as VM is well expensive and rubbish for broadband?

no, you can use any broadband provider normally, however VM broadband maybe expensive but it's the fastest and in my opinion the best value.

I was under the opinion if you wanted a VM cable sub you needed to have VM broadband for it to work

but the cable coming into my house is 'live'

You just need a live vm feed. So you can cancel broadband and you feed should stay alive, you just run the risk of VM disconnecting your feed at any time they don't normally do that unless there's no room in the local cabinet.
