I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. I took my car in for a
It's annual smog test and it failed for the first time ever.
Everything was OK up until NOx reading at 25mph, and that was only 3 above max allowable. The smog guy recommended I get a new catalytic converter and take the test again after the repair has been completed.
So my questions are:
1. Do I really need to spend 300 to have a new cat installed even though there was only a 3 point differential between my NOx reading and max allowable?
2. Would using high octain fuel with octane booster bring the number down to the "acceptable" range?
3. What else can I do to get that number into the acceptable standards. Keep in mind that I am money crunched and have to do the work myself. Cheaper is better. Free is best.
Thanks
