You can't go wrong with " amazon fire TV stick " sideload xbmc onto it streams well. Currently argos and tesco selling them for £25.

Depending on your comfort level on how the boxes work. A good cheap box for someone who is new i would recommend the Mag 254 box. For some one who has some knowledge i would recommend the raspberry Pi2 box.

I use my pc and have kodi running on it and while it's a good enough picture etc surely some sort of box would be quicker or better?

There's plenty of video on Ytube that will show you how to stick Kodi etc onto the firestick

Yep, the ytube video shows you putting kodi on the stick, adding repositories and setting up TV streams. Follow it step by step and you'll not go wrong.
