Director Tony Scott dies aged 68

Tony Scott, the British director whose films included Top Gun, True Romance and the Crimson Tide, has died in tragic circumstances in Los Angeles. He was 68.

A spokesperson for the director, Katherine Rowe, said in a statement: "I can confirm that Tony Scott has indeed passed away. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time."


The younger brother of director Ridley Scott, Tony Scott directed more than two dozen films and TV series, worked as an executive producer on such shows as Numb3rs and The Good Wife and also directed many ads for the film and commercial production company founded by his elder brother, Ridley Scott Associates.


Among Tony Scott's other credits as a director were The Hunger, Beverly Hills Cop II, The Last Boy Scout, Enemy of the State, Man on Fire, The Taking of Pelham 123 and Unstoppable.


His credits as a film producer included Prometheus, The Grey, The A-Team and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.


He is survived by his wife Donna and two sons, Max and Frank.
