externally viewing your box - warning

hahahaha... nice one kiddac, ave got a few good stories from my younger could'nt give a flyin shit days before all these new laws come in to effect but i need to keep a few of them to myself, for my safety..lol I tend to keep myself on the white side not the black/grey side of the thin line now ... adult content via a sat dish,, i can't work it out cos there is more content available via a web browser on the net for free than there will ever be thru a paid soft core xxx porn sub, but I keep forgetting that there are net illiterate people still out there that only know how to use a remote control in one hand and the tissues in the other...:binoculars:

That's why I can't understand why people moan that they don't get adult channels from there server what's the point when you can get better online

does the ts panel plugin not have a fair old selection of ip streaming links for pornhub and the likes on it or was it another ip plugin that i found a while ago ( can't remember as i do not use stuff like that, i have a good imagination and a freshly washed pile of socks handy ROFL ). Its a wonder no one has installed iceweasle web browser on the gemma and went porn hunting, there again it would have to be html5 porn and am sure the pervs still use flash player.. lol. I suppose pushing a couple of buttons on the remote and watching some crap on the big tv is easiier than trying to balance the laptop on the knee, the tissues on the arm of the chair and hoping girlfriend/wife/partner/etc dont come down stairs to catch you. hahaha.

hahahah cheers.. ave got frig all else to do at the moment so i might as well bring a smile to the boring threads...:nolisten: back to the task in hand... NOT that task either :yes!: kiddac's brilliant slyk skin, I use picon's but want to just want to have the sky logo in the top left corner instead of the picon's on the full epg screen, I tink kiddac has it shown on his skin page, once i find it..

Sorry don't usually ask stupid questions but can't seem to find this add on anywhere is there a possibility you could send me it via email or something please I've temp disabled remote access until I sort it but under plugins/system I can't download and google can't seem to source it thanks in advance for any help

i couldn't get that setpasswd plugin to work. So use telnet instead.

google telnet putty.
Download putty.exe

run putty.

Enter your boxes ip address.
Select telnet.
Open

Enter root as your login

type passwd

type your new password (the cursor wont move but you will be typing)
repeat new password

Close down telnet.

plugins...openwebif
enable HTTP Authentication...Yes

openwebif will now require username and password when you open it up in a browser.

lilvfr400boy just to let you know there are lots of posts on here where people have enabled external access to their box, and their box constantly crashes. FTP also becomes unavailable. If you have any problems with your box, this is probably the cause of it. Just a heads up.
 
Disabled absolutely everything pal however I've never had issues with crashing I only use webif for the controller as the zgemma stock controller seems to be living room camo

I had a fiddle with my box this evening and my box crashed twice and ftp wouldn't work. I actually ended up reflashing my box...needlessly by the sound of things.

Another lesson learned though.
 
can't get this to work despite following your instructions exactly.
When I open in a browser it asks for user name and password but just page refreshes and asks for username and password everytime

Presume the username is root and the password is the one i set in telnet?
 
driver-wedge you will also have to reset your routers dmz if you have been messing around with that. Thats the culprit.

reboot your box.
and clear your browser cache. Download and run ccleaner that will clear all your crap and cache on your computer.

To test your password. try telnet again and try ftp your box. see if they now ask for a passwords.

i don't think it works if you have opened openwebif in that session. So restart everything and try it again.
 
thanks, turns out it works fine if I type in my internal ip address but doesn't work using the external ip address whether through the same network or another internet connection.
ahhh so frustrating!
 
I'm sacking off external. I only really want the option of web if for multi room via kodi anyway thanks for the wanting kiddac

andypa1.. if you want me to test your external IP address just pm me. I promise I won't break or steal anything. Or mess with your volume. or put playboy on while you sleep. Or write message on screen.... I am actually being serious though. If you want me to test it.
