Galway put entire squad up for sale

Wednesday, 22 June 2011

The entire Galway United squad will be for sale during the summer transfer window.

The decision by Galway to put all their professional players up for sale was taken after talks with the Professional Footballers Association of Ireland.

The club is in financial difficulty and will also try to raise funds through a campaign that will get underway in Galway city centre on Saturday with a flag day and continue at the team's next home match against UCD on Friday 1 July.

Galway slumped to their 14th defeat in a row on Tuesday night, losing 2-0 to St Pat's at home.

I don't follow soccer but being local I do know that giving the purse strings to the man that brought down Barings Bank was not a very clever move. There are three Pro teams in Galway City now and there just isn't the room for them all financially speaking.
