Does anyone have any recommendations for good Windows software to convert h264 video format to say mp4 or something regular? It's for my home CCTV system which records in h264 and I want to give a copy of a recording to my neighbour which they can easily play in WMP or VLC or something. Thanks.

another alternative;

VSDC Free Video Converter

Support for all key formats (including HD-video)
All popular video formats are supported, including HD video (H.264/AVC, AVCHD, MKV, TOD/MOD, TS), and all video and audio codecs. Supported formats: DVD, AVI, MPEG, WMV and ASF, FLV and SWF, MOV, MP4 and M4V, RM and RMVB, 3GP, AMV and more.

That said normally your dvr will come with a cd for pc viewing which will also convert the recordings to popular formats such as avi ect. If not i will happily upload the contents of mine, no guarantees it will work for live viewing of your dvr but the conversion utility certainly will.

Thanks mate. Funny thing is I found my software. All working now, so no need to dig. lol Thanks for all the help.

If you want to convert the files use Handbrake. There is however no reason your friends PC can't play the original files. You'll need to install the correct codec first though. Grab the K-Lite Codec Pack from here http://codecguide.com
