How to copy Sky recorded programmes to external HDD

Hi, can anyone give me guidance as to how to copy recorded programmes from Sky HD box to an external HDD so that they can be watched on TV. Now that my sub has been cancelled to sky, I now have discovered that my wife cannot watch all her recorded programs due to requiring a sky signal to the receiver. Thanks for direction.

Bear in mind that it only works for FTA recordings though. It doesn't work for FTV or subscription channels.
