Locked VPN Router

Greg P

Newbie
I have a vpn hub that is apparently locked to a provider, is there a way to wipe it and be able to use it for any provider ?
Thanks

Surely there must a factory default button on the router - I'm not telling you to do this, get some more info first.
But if you were to factory reset then there must be firmware for your router on the manufacturers website or maybe DD-WRT website.

Whats the make and model of your router, where did you get it from, what firmware is on it at the moment and what VPN provider are you with?

Yes there is a reset button, will check out the data,
The router is a Mikrotik , hAP AC Lite. I got it from Amazon not sure about the firmware but it says its locked to Liberty Shield but i have changed to Digibit and wondered if i can get it to work with them.

It would be great if you could - I suspect many are in the same boat as you. I must say when I last looked at Liberty Shield, I did not like the look of it, and said so:- http://www.techkings.org/threads/vpn-router.129842/#post-765825

This should remove anything Liberty have done and put a basic firmware image from Mikrotik.com on the router so be certain you want to do this.
Liberty will have used the basic firmware and then customised it.

Not too clued up on this so probably be best to get a hub that i know will work with my provider ???

If you are thinking of getting another router anyway then you may as well have a go at the one you have. By putting the default router firmware on then you will have a router that you can use fo something else or even as a bridge if you where to get another router anyway.
However, I would imagine once you put the new firmware on then there should be a VPN tab where you can enter details for your provider.

Obviously up to you though mate.

Hi Peter.
No i had no joy at all, landed up buying a Formuler 1 box and openvpn works a treat on it, so the hub is now redundant !!

Have either of tried contacting Liberty to see if they will advise a way to access the router to put the manufacturers firmware back on?

I've just ordered a router from Libility shield just to run my IPTV and ZGEMMA H2S iptv player through ,I tried digibit and keep cutting out and loosing my VPN tried PIA but help desk never getback to you when I want help setting them up on my router

Liberty Shield's proprietary vpn offering minds me of the joke about giving direction, "if I were you I wouldn't start from here...".

But for those who are there for one reason or another, if you manage to wipe their firmware and turn the router back into a bog standard mikrotik router, this might help you set it up running the pptp vpn protocol.

Cheers!
