Mag 254 - Wi-fi or Direct

Hi Mate,

Should be fine with wifi so long as the signal is strong. Saying that, I always prefer wired over powerlines :)

I put a 254 in for a family member this week works perfectly well over wifi no buffering issues at all box downstairs router upstairs 54mbs connection

I installed the MAG256w1 and tested the wifi from about 15 foot from the router.
Without a direct Ethernet connection the speed was approximately 1.2 Meg.
With the Ethernet either direct or by Home Plugs the speed is 20 Meg.
You need a decent speed for sport to be enjoyed.
I now have 2 MAG256 boxed and both test the same.

Hi mate
What home plugs u using cos I'm I having quite a lot of buffering esp on sports.
I k ow it be provided also but it's very good sometimes.
Thanks.

This is an old thread you have tagged on to.

Homeplugs don't generally cause the buffering as they
can perform a lot faster than what your box requires.

Personally I use a set of BT 500Mbps and they are fine.

You would be best testing your internet speed, do an online test,
my mate had 8 Mb coming in and had lots of buffering on a Mag 256.

Same box and line at my house ran fine on 20Mb

Thanks for replying.
Just updated box there and did a speed test on inner portal and I've done this a few times over the past week or so and getting very low speeds.
The test I just ran there said 1.83mbps.
Now I be got fibre broadband and I know its70 mb so can't for the life of me figure why that's so low.
But I read elsewhere that the reading in the inner portal wasn't accurate.
Hard to know really.
All i do know is that it's giving me the Charlie

You need to run the test on a computer, the speeds on the boxes
are all over the place, you will probably get a different reading each time you run it on your box.
