I have a superhub 3 and not had to do anything to it. works fine.

You may have to disable web safe on his virgin account, this is done by logging into virgin media site and changing settings.

Have you restarted the box (not restart gui) since having the new hub installed?

login to your router and disable flood detection its in the advanced settings

watch this vid off youtube its outdated but watch it

same here
never had to change anything plug and play

there is no need to buy anything, it's an unnecessary expense.

On the box, if you haven't already it might be worth changing the dns to google.

If its an atv based image:
Menu -> setup -> system -> network -> device setup -> nameserver settings

and then set
nameserver 1 : 8.8.8.8
nameserver 2 : 8.8.4.4

why do you need to change the DNS Nameserver ?

First rule of I.T switch off and back on,

I agree with Ariana, the superhubs are pants, i was getting 40 to 50 mbps, switched it to modem mode with an Asus router and back up to 90+

Took a bit of setting up but no more issues,
