Property can have cable. Easiest way to check if it's live?

Hello guys I am moving to a property soon and it can have cable. I have no idea if it has a line and even if it's live. I am with BT Broadband for another 8 months so will be carrying that over. With all the issues with the Sat boxes I'm going to be swapping my H2S for a Cable H2H box but only want to do this if I have the correct initial setup. Can anyone tell me what to look out for (cables) and the easiest and cheapest way to check if the cables are live?

Generally there should be a box on the outside wall (mine's brown) that the main line comes too, and an internal VM box which you connect your devices too. Just look around the room's (especially the front ones) for a VM box or cover. If it's there then the installation itself is probably fine.

The only way I know of testing if its active without specialist equipment, is too plug something in. Grab a splitter and cable box and see if the FTA channels work. If it's not active, its only £15/£20 to activate I think, so it's not really a big deal.

If it's not installed, then its about £40 for installation I think, assuming your in a VM enabled area, which you can check online using the postcode.
