Testing cable line

Hi everyone,

After some information from you knowledgeable people, I want to get a cable (VM) box and line as the satellite version is basically null and void now.

My house had virmin installed by the previous owner I believe but hasn't been used for 3 years plus, is there any way I can test to see if the line is still active without the obvious solution of buy a box and plug it in?

A mate who used to work for telewest said there should be voltage on the cable but my multimeter picks up nothing.

Don't want to pay £100 for a decent box and find I have been disconnected.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I would love to, however nobody has one/won't lend me it.

Just wondering if there is a way to measure the signal?

Or if anyone is feeling generous in the Birmingham area :)

Go to the brown box outside your house and put a multimeter on it, and i believe you are looking for about 2 to 3 volts, this means your line is live...

I will attempt this again when I get home. DC I take it rather than AC aswell?

And positive probe on middle core and negative/ground onto the outside sheathing/screw for the adapter
