can boxes get ultra hd or is that never gonna happen ?

No. They do upscale the HD picture if you have a 4K tv. I found that I you have a 4K tv and a 4K box then only let one of them do the upscaling. Having both of them doing the upscale seems to confuse certain combinations resulting in a not so good picture. I have my 4K box to do the upscaling and turned the ultra hd off on my Samsung. This produced a great picture. On my LG 4K I have it the other way round. its trial and error depending on your TV.
