Vm signal issues

Ok so bare with me for a bit please.

I have set up two cable boxes so far. One for my mum and my own. They work fine.

Today a mate had virgin installed. I said I'd sort him with a box so I ordered him one. He wants to use the v6 box for his missus and then use the one I got him (enigma2) for himself, football and that.

His set up is different than mine and my mum's it's only been installed and it's a v6 box so im having issues.

Into the house on the wall there is 2 cables. One runs into some sort of virgin plug (never seen one of these before). The other cable coming in is then split in two, one cable goes to the router and one to v6 box.

I only had another dual splitter so had to split the v6 box cable again and run one two the v6 box and one to the box I got him. V6 is still fine. And doing scan on the enigma2 box it picks up all channels most clear with my sub. Utv a few cinema hd sky sports news hd all break up pretty bad. Sky sports football hd he has a black screen. Snr is sitting at 98 and 99 percent except for sky sports football hd which shows 0%. What am I doing wrong?

Should I get a 3 way splitter rather than splitting twice with a dual splitter.

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks
Scott

You shouldn't use more than 1 splitter on the same wire as it weakens the signal even further... use a Technetix 3 way splitter.

So even when I plugged the cable that goes directly into the v6 box directly into the enigma2 box this helped but sky sports football hd was badly pixelated. This was only using the vm splitter the virgin engineer used to split the v6 and router. Is this strange [emoji21]

Usually, the VM feed comes into the house into a white box - from this white box, there's 1 cable coming from it then a Technetix 2 way splitter fitted then 2 cables coming from this - 1 to tv and 1 to router... is this not the way it was when you installed the box?

Have you got the correct area ID from their V6 box? ... if you set it up at your house and the area ID is different, this can also cause problems so worth looking into.

Yeah so there is two cables coming from the white box. One is like you said going to a two way splitter which feeds to router and then the v6 box. The other cable from the white box goes into some white Virgin plug I have no idea what this does but when unplugged all signal to the box is lost. Is it some sort of booster they are using ?

Anyway if I use the direct cable that the v6 box uses and plug it into the enigma2 box it fixes all issues except on sky sports football hd where the signal seems to be awful.

Yeah, sounds like some kind of HDU although these are not normally fitted into the white box on the wall - i've never seen it like that anyway.

Just looked it up and it does look like a VDU - what i'm concerned about is that it fixes the channels apart from ss football hd which really badly pixelates like unwatchable. So this is making me worry that something isn't installed right but I can hardly get him to phone up VM with this complaint so kind of stuck with how to fix this. Ill be going up shortly to look at it again so i can take a pic and upload the setup to see if it makes any more sense.

If you log into the router, you can get signal levels from there and if they're not within range of VM tolerances, you can call them and get them to look into it.

Look forward to pics :)

So before logging into the router to get the signal levels will I put the setup back to the way the eningeer had it ? If I post up results can you check if the levels are ok?

Thanks

Dunno if this is relevant but a lot of people have been having issues with virmin channels today due to some network updates etc a lot of my hd channels have been badly affected just thought i would mention this ok ;)

Mines the same lot of hd channels freezing, thought it was cat 6 cable, but changed that and still same. Been spot on for 3 months now this.

OK so i have uploaded the pics here of the way it has been set up. You can see the box on the wall with the two cables. One cable is the plug which you can see. The other goes to the two way splitter one which feeds router and the other feeds v6 box.

One of the pictures is of SSN HD which has slight break up - the other is SS football HD which is complete darkness except for the odd pixelation. Some channnels taking like 10 seconds to clear others instant.

I have also logged into the router and these are the settings with the setup as I have (the two splitters):

That white box on the wall is new to me - never seen one of those before... I find it strange that they would fit a powered HDU like that then fit an attenuator before the splitter to then lower the signal... try removing this attenuator. I though VM fitted 5-1000mhz splitters also, not 5-1218mhz which is another thing i've never seen.

Power levels are all ok on the box though - pretty low if it's got to -5.5 (tolerance is -6 to +10) but still within range. I wonder why they fitted the HDU there like that - would be interested to see if anyone else on here has any input.

Yes it is one of them brown boxes.

I have taken that little small wideband equaliser out and it improved. Then i plugged the cable straight into the engima2 box without the wideband equaliser and all channels are working fine including sky sports football HD no breakup. So question is.... how do I split the two outputs to a three to make the v6 box work. As when I connect up I am losing sky sports football HD and some movie channels :( Try a three way splitter?

I will order that and see if it helps. It is a really annoying set up I don't understand it at all this new setup. Completely different to the older setup. Really frustrated.

Yeah it's pretty new from the reading i've just done over the last half hour - Hopefully you can get it sorted though.

Ok so as you can see from the pics i have removed that 4db wideband equaliser (What would this even do?) Which has given me back Channel4 HD ( slight distortion at times) and sky sports new hd. Still missing sky sports football HD when the second splitter is in as you can see from pics (yes its a mess lol). Hoping when i can remove the two dual splitters and replace with the triple splitter it might just have enough signal to work for me. Here's hoping. I guess there is nothing I can do to further boost it?
