Volvo S80 Engine Noise

Hi, I have a 57 plate Volvo S80 D5 (103K on the clock). When it is idling it is very "throaty". If i give it some revs (over 1000) it goes away and sounds fine. The car drives fine, there is no rattling, and fuel consumption is normal. The noise does seem to go quieter when the car has been driven for a short while, then left to idle. Has any one got any ideas what the issue is? Thanks

It's due a filter change, but doesn't blow any smoke. I have heard it could be the alternator or the power steering pump

Could be swirl flaps sticking
Blocked breather pipe
Egr valve needs cleaning etc.
Split boost pipe.
Only way to know for sure is to take it to a reputable independant garage for a diagnostic check to see if theres any fault codes stored in the ecu etc and then take it from there.
