Just a bit of advice on VPN routers, with the internet seeming to be getting tightly policed more and more now and ISP's like Sky, BT etc cracking down and constantly spying on what we are doing just want a bit of advice on a VPN router.

Looking at getting one but don't want to be spending hundreds of pounds just wondering if any of you lot have any low end ones that still do the job and are worth the money. So any routers you have in mind please share.

I have IPVanish at the minute for odd devices i'm guessing with a router you still keep a VPN provider but just set it up to the router instead of s specific device.

Thanks.

you are goner need cpu power you need to be spending as much as poss on 1 open vpn only uses single core so if you cant spend loads then dont bother thats my opinium

I find vpn's more trouble than they are worth and do you really need them.Been doing stuff for years and never had a problem.ISP's are after the big boys not joe public and they don't monitor your traffic.Maybe Certain searches would flag up like child porn etc but apart from that I don't thing you need to worry just yet.But who knows ,maybe in the future we will all need to use a vpn.

Putting VPN on a router will cover ALL your components on your network, so could slow things down a bit, I have a Netgear Nighthawk router with VPN installed on it, I also still use my Vermin router, so it just a case of putting what i want covered with the VPN onto my netgear router, and everything else that i don't want covered with a VPN on the Vermin router.. Same with the wi-fi settings,

I use ASUS RT-AC86U - like previous poster said get more than 1 cpu router if you have a fast broadband speed, i previously had an ac66u but speeds were drastically reduced. ASUS RT-AC86U can max out my 350mb line using vpn :)

Thanks guys for replies yeah I suppose you get what you pay for so if I ever do get one night as well spend the money so my speeds aren't effected toouch. The thing I was worried about was if Sky would be able to track a zgemma using IPTV on it. Or would it not show up as it's a Linux based software not a specific browser search if you know what I mean.

I'm on sky and running IPTV ,Kodi, file sharing etc and never had a problem as of yet.I think it would be impossible to clamp down on everyone as there are so many people at it these days. There was a court order issued to block EPL but most providers have got round the problem.

A cheap fix is just change your DNS settings away from your ISP's DNS Servers then they won't know what you're searching. Will cost you nothing mate ;)
