VU+ SOLO green flashing light is it bricked ???? HELP PLEASE

I tryed to mend my mates vu+ which he hadn't used for a few years, image was black hole, anyhow i thought it was best to take an update which it did and downloaded and installed 250 or 350 updates,
then said box will reboot, which it never so i did manual reboot and it froze on start up screen for 20 minutes..
I was advised to use open vix but when i try and install as per all instructions i have found on the net it just flashes green light with no picture at all, if usb drive is not in it just a static green light,
i am not sure if its a cloned box or not as dont know how to tell
Can anyone help save me replacing this for him ??
 
Most new images require a fresh flash!
So download latest image then reflash.

I have managed to get it working now with vix, but its a 2011 image and when trying to download plugins it says no new plugins are available, need a new image but when i try and put new image on it does the same thing flashing green light and no picture.. do i need a bootloader for the new image as they are not in new image downloads
