What should I go for a satellite or cable reciever?

Hello, I'm looking at buying a satellite reciever, I have a few questions if someone could help me out that would be great, my friend has a libertview box that uses a satellite dish and he gets all the 3pm premier league games etc so I was going to buy one of these as well as a dish, however I just read you can get a box that would be compatable with cable, as we already have a VM package in our house would it be better to get one of those and save buying a dish? If so can someone recommend a good one? Would the channels be the same? Also if the satellite route is best, ie receives more channels would a bog standard sky dish from eBay do the job? Thanks for your help.

From a channel point of view sat has Setanta which will give you one 3pm premier league game.

Generally the biggest 3pm fixture.

Cable doesn't have Setanta but does have all the HD channels. Otherwise the channel list is pretty much the same.

So pretty much no HD movies, sport etc on sat but they have them in SD.

Cable subs are more expensive than sat.

Why not get a "combo" and have the best of both worlds
