Hi there i have just moved house at the weekend there i have a f3 skybox was working all fine in my old house i set it up myself but now in my new house i called sky up to get the small tv package in so incould use the dish for my box this is where i need help...... I am not want to pay 60+ a month to get all my channels back from sky that i have in my box i am happy with my little box anyway they came out today to put my sky dish up and tell me that because there is a few trees on the main road they cant get a signal for my dish so couldent fit it so now only thing incan do is go with virgin media but as you all know you dont get a sky dish with them so dont know what i am going to do now is there another root i could go down to get my box working? Without a dish or to work with virgin? Thanks in advance

Another piss poor excuse form the usual suspects aka official sky installers in other words if it has to be fitted above Gutter level please dont call us LOL. you have a choice either phone an independent installer wh could probably actually spend a bit more time surveying your property and see where and how the dish may be sited for maximum signal, or you get a cable receiver and go down the VM route

Yes mate dident take much time at all when he was out :( pritty gutted a was like mate i dont care where you put the dish you can put it on my shed for all i care he is like sorry no where i can put it so i was looking at getting a dish put up on the roof myself so i called a guy to see what he charges because i havent got a chimny it has to go on a poll out through the tiles or somthing he said and i would be looking at around £250 :( not really want to pay that :( what do you mean by a cable receiver mate? Have you got a link of what i would be looking for to give me a idea? And do they work the same as what i had? I have a android box etc also that i use kodi on to watch films etc but the sports etc are crap because there streaming a dont like them streaming prefer the way i have my skybox thanks

I'd get a cheap dish from fleabay and install it myself. see if you can get a signal, and if so everyons a chicken dinner.
If not, as FreeUK has suggested, go down the cable route.
If it costs a tenner for the dish, then that's not too bad!!

What is the cable route but? Is that like streaming channels or would it work the same way as the f3 box? Thanks

I would also consider getting another independent quote as £250 is well steep, and a tile & slate clamp if correctly installed will hold a standard zone1 dish if placed discretely and sheltered from any heavy winds.

If you have cable in your area you can take a broadband package giving you the feed and split off, then add a decent cable box, purchase a connection and your back up and running with full hd again

Surely one of your neighbours has sky mate i would buy my own and copy of theres. Signal finders are cheap enough and dish is £19.99 on fleabay am a roofer andhave seen sky dishies fixed to chimney stacks obviously the installer who come to your house was a lazy bast*d.

I havent got a chimney on my house mate so cant even pit it on that :( and because am in the middle of 2 houses i cant even get it higher on the side of my house as i am in the middle :(

A dish does not have to be high to get a signal-----get a cheapie off the bay plus an lnb-----attach the dish onto a pole and connect to box--with the aid of a £4 sat finder walk around and locate a signal [look at neighbours dishes for direction]----once signal located prop your pole up, adjust dish angle until you get best signal then check box on a fta channel to ensure correct sat---once you are happy then secure all and relax.
Reaper.
My neighbours dish is sat at the end of his garden attached to an old lawnmower handle and he gets all channels.
