SkyBox F5 and Sky HD

Newbie
Hi,

Im a paying sky HD customer and have all the packages (3D, Sports, Movies etc), im trying to install the skybox as another box to view different channels in another room (like what sky charge £15 amonth for multi room)

As i already have the Sky dish setup correctly, i would have thought it was easy to use this F5 box, but im already lost.

I bought it preloaded with TV listings, but im aware i still need to add my sky card settings but thats it?

I have the box connected via ethernet, do i need to add a coax as well?

I've read the rules and i think i understand what you mean about not talking about card sharing, but im unsure if this is what im asking?

Essentially i want to 'dump' my existing subscription to input into my new SkyBox i think?

It wont work, the skybox f5 is for client connections only, you need to get a box that can be setup as a server, or use a pc as your server and conect youe f5 to it.
In short your wasting your time with what you have at the moment, read the tuts on setting up a cs share for you house.

oh damn really?
The site i bought it from said i would be able to :(

Are there any boxes that perform how i want to? What about this Vu+ Duo?

Thanks for the quick reply bro

edit: would it be more cost effective to buy a 'gift' for 12months for this box?

That depends if your willing to do plenty of reading and purchasing a new box to act as s****r or setting up a pc to run as.if your only wanting to use the f5 and not feed any others then a gift would prob be less hassle for u?

yeh im happy to read how todo it, i just need pointing in the right direction...

Ideally i didnt want to spend anymore as it was meant to be a cheap solution to Sky's multiroom...

i may just look into a CCCam server like u said... Any good suggestions?

You will probably need a linux based box, dreambox, or VU box.
If you want to set it up as a server.

You are looking at about £150 ish or a bit more.

A good server will cost you about £70 - 80 per year.

You need to run a coax to the all of these boxes, plus an internet feed.

Just a suggestion, why not try a server with the F box, then if you think it is ok, do away with sky altogether
and get a good main box for your living room. I use a blade for the main box plus F5 for the bedroom. Some servers allow two boxes to run off one line in the same house
so I have one line for both boxes and it works fine.

You can request a line for your F box here
somebody will PM you some details

Post 10 in this tutorial here
explains how to enter a line in your F5

You could always run a coax out the back of your official skybox straight into the ariel connection on your tv, set your channel on the skybox
and watch it in the other room, you can only have the same channel on both Tv's though, if it's only a simple setup you are after.

So if I get a dream box or VU I wouldn't haven't to pay an additional yearly fee (as I ultimately want to keep my Sky subscription)

could I then connect this F5 to the VU?

essentially what I'm asking is could I say give this F5 to my brother in Nottingham, and share my Sky subscription using the VU as a server?

is it quite simple todo?
It's just a one of fee to buy the box?

Yes, you can do that, you will need to read up though.
There is info on each box in there sections, just post in there if you
get stuck.

Just before you jump in though, I have read posts saying sky are supposed to be pairing
cards to (official)boxes to try and stop this, so don't know how long
you would get out of it or if there is a fix out yet for paired cards.

Lots of rumours and not many facts at the mo.

We will just have to see, thing is you could buy a 1 month or three month
line for now and see what, if anything, develops.

Just thought I would let you know about the card pairing thing
incase you spend a load of money and it does become a problem.

This is for a dreambox

You have already forked out for the F5 so I personally would set that up with a cline to someone with a decent server (get a few tests off people first) and then keep that for a few months and then after July we may have a better idea of what Sly are up to if not before with the new pairing.
That way it won't cost you much more money for the cline and you won't be out of pocket by buying another box for a server and then this all comes to an end. As you will be pretty annoyed if you've spent money and time getting a server sorted.

woooooo....when you bought the F5 did it include a 12month gift...usually £100+...........if it did then you just need an internet connection and a coax feed from your dish...no sky details etc...just connect and go.
If not just buy a gift from someone..prices vary and they will send you the info / settings you need.
