View my Skybox V8 on my Macbook

As the title suggests, is there any way to watch my Skybox content on my Macbook without having to buy Slingbox or something similar? My Skybox is connected to a switch which is in turn connected to the router. My Macbook is connected via wifi with the router. I tried pasting the Skybox IP Address into my web browser and VLC but I cannot connect. Would this work if I either had a wifi dongle in my Skybox (prefer not to do this as I like the wired connection). Or if I connect my Mac to the switch? As you can tell I'm new to this so will probably have loads more questions if that's ok? Thanks in advance.

Ok cool. I seen somewhere that you can do it with a Zgemma box. So would Slingbox be the best option if I wanted to do this?

For what I need it for the Skybox seems fine. I just thought it would be easy to do the above.

I've just looked at the back of the Slingbox M1 and my V8 and I'm just wondering how they connect with each other? Can anyone advise me?
