The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 rocked the international box office this weekend with a huge estimated $144 million in 54 markets. Its top territory was the United Kingdom with $22 million, which was a new high for the series. It was also huge in Russia ($15 million), France ($14.5 million), Australia ($12.2 million), Italy ($12 million), and Spain ($11.6 million), and it played well in Latin American markets Brazil ($10.2 million) and Mexico ($8.1 million).

Among those big territories, Breaking Dawn was about even with New Moon and improved slightly on Eclipse. Those movies wound up with $416 million and just shy of $400 million, respectively. Including its domestic gross, Breaking Dawn debuted to $283.5 million worldwide, which ranks 10th all-time.

The Adventures of Tintin added an estimated $21.7 million from 53 markets for a total of $187.6 million. It opened to a solid $7.4 million in China and added $2.3 million in France, which is currently its top territory with over $50 million.

Arthur Christmas expanded slightly to five markets and earned $5 million this weekend. Impressively, it was up six percent to $3.6 million in the U.K., indicating strong word-of-mouth in Aardman Animation's native country. Unfortunately, it had a soft $1.06 million opening in Germany, which doesn't bode well for its prospects throughout the rest of the international marketplace. The movie has so far made $9 million overseas and is set for its U.S. debut on Wednesday.

Happy Feet Two opened to $2.6 million from four territories this weekend. Over half of that came from a $1.5 million debut in Mexico, which is on par with the first Happy Feet's opening. The movie expands in to Italy, Brazil and Japan next weekend.

Grosses are not currently available for last weekend's leader Immortals or French hit Intouchables. Those numbers will be posted as soon as they are available.
