which insurances allow this then? it's hard to find which ones specialise in that
so is your son named as 2nd driver on your policy? i may have to do that, im 21 by the way, i just remembered i had made another thread on here about car insurance, any chance admin/mod can merge them? Linny40 how much did you end up paying then for the insurance? was it TPFT or FC
1st off not many will let you know unless you ask about the young driver gaining the NCB if no accidents within the 1st yr. All insurances will let you have a names driver, but if your parents are going to insure the car with you as a seconds driver then they will have to contact them, unfortunately they probably wont speak to you if you start it in their names. but as a 2nd driver they may let you claim the NCB instead of your parents, but as said you have to ask them its not always on thier websites.
But the coop as ive said cost us £2.5k under my name with my son as a second driver and they only sell fully comp ins.
I have also been told that youngsters always go for TPFT coz they think its cheaper BUT its NOT always. Peopel are under the impression that it is much cheaper, but i was told by the co-op that for youngsters its more expensive coz they know your trying to get the cheaper in knowing you may well have to make a claim. If you look up compare sites and type in Fully comp, then change to TPFT you will sometimes see there is hardly any difference, or that the price is the same or more expensive.
It also depends on your postcode ( area) and what car you are trying to insure - ie engine size and if its a bod standard car or got modifications or a sporty type. My sons car is a corsa 1.2 SXi ( meaning more fancy according to the insurance) and is a group 3. So check out what car your looking for and check out the insurance group.
One of the cheapest cars to insure is a group 1 = corsa club 1.0 and the newer the plate the cheaper it is so if say you bought a
Y reg that might be more expensive than say an
02 or
54 plate.
Make sure you shop around NOt just for car insurance but also for the type of car you can AFFORD to insure, and hopefully your parents will let you be a named driver on insurance under their name.
For the co-op there is an add block at the top of the page on the forum which changes - click on that when the co-op comes up and get an online quote - thats what i did.
