I now have my box working and have both vm and sat channels.

i have updated my cross epg downloader but while it has updated the tv guide for vm when i go to my sat bouquet it has not updated them.
i have tried to update them while watching a sat channel but makes no difference.

what do i need to do to get both updating and preferably both at same time? can anyone recommend a good epg to download?

Vm updates via the preview channels or you can use the plugin epg refresh

I just set a record timer for 3 am every day myself

so if i understand you set the box to record something on vm preview channel at 3am so when it auto updates its on the preview channel and will update the epg?

Yep only needs to be 5 mins, the epg refresh plugin does the same thing basically
